Mayor Greg Oravec visited Palm Pointe 3rd graders to discuss how the mayor’s role is important for our local government. The students really enjoyed asking lots of questions and interacting with Mayor Oravec.

Eighth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition looked at different changes in matter both physical and chemical to observe and classify different changes in matter. Students produced their own lava lamp or graduated cylinder to view the physical changes of a mixture and the chemical changes present in a chemical reaction.  Thirty three students from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently competed in the St. Lucie County History Fair after completing research projects using the National History Day theme, “Revolution, Reaction, & Reform in History”.  Students competed in the five categories, including exhibit, research paper, performance, documentary, and website. Of those 33 students,  the 17 students pictured placed either first or third at the district competition.  First place winners will attend the Florida State History Fair from April 29th-May 1st in Tallahassee, FL. where they will compete with students from around the state with hopes of attending the National History Day competition in Washington, D.C.  First … Read More

Students in Hillary Cruz’s seventh grade Civics classes at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition have selected the problem of puppy mills and current breeder legislation to focus on for this years’ Project Citizen project. To assist in comparing how state and federal agencies enforce animal welfare legislation, students contacted Dr. Gaj with the United States Department of Agriculture, who visited the classroom with a PowerPoint presentation on the subject, as well as answered students’ questions.  Pictured are Luke Bentley, left, and Zachary Barsuglia with animals they received after answering questions for Dr Gaj during the presentation.

Get your ice cold lemonade, for only 75 cents at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition! The first nine weeks of school, students in Kaitlyn Olesik’s autistic middle school class worked very hard on identifying coins and their values. They put all of their prior and new knowledge to the test by opening up their very own class lemonade stand! The students were given the opportunity to make homemade lemonade. They used skills such as following directions, measuring ingredients, taking turns and squeezing fresh lemons! Students came to school all decked out in orange to take a stand against bullying.  They wanted to send a clear message that they don’t support bullying and that they won’t be a bystander.  Way to go, students!  Together, let’s stomp out bullying for good.  

Alexia Morgan and Hannah Raymond from Palm Pointe K8 School had the opportunity to share their project at the Project Citizen State Finals recently. Their project, “Water” We Waiting For? researched drowning deaths of younger children and found that Florida leads the nation in drowning deaths of children ages 1-4 years old. The class set out to research and propose public policy to save lives and reduce these statistics.  The civics class submitted a digital entry this year due to the remote instruction and competition requirements. Thank you to civics teacher Jennifer Wright for leading students through this worthwhile project!

A cohort of Palm Pointe 8th-grade students proudly participated in St. Lucie County Public Schools’ 8th Grade Experience, an immersive career exploration event co-sponsored by St. Lucie Public Schools and the Treasure Coast Center for Economic & Educational Development (TCCEED). This initiative is designed to introduce middle school students to high-demand industries and inspire future career pathways. Students explored careers aligned with their Xello career interest surveys, engaged with interactive stations, and demonstrated exemplary effort and genuine curiosity throughout the day. Students from Lorri Rudzinski’s second grade class Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition shared their POINT OF VIEW with Superintendent Michael Lannon during a recent visit to the school. Students responded to the school district’s request for public input about what characteristics they thought the new superintendent should possess, as Mr. Lannon retires at the end of June. Second grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition put on their annual Thanksgiving performance after learning about Native Americans, Pilgrims, and fhe first Thanksgiving! They sang songs with the guidance of music director Christine Hill and put on a skit for families. Pictured are second graders as they perform for their families and friends. 

Students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition were excited to participate in a Publix Math Night. A math skill scavenger hunt was held at the Tradition Square Publix. Clues and strategies to solve real world problems were given to the students in grades K-5. The problems were matched to the grade level of each student. Parents accompanied their kids and helped them with the scavenger hunt. This was a fun way to practice math! Five Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition students participated recently in the St. Lucie All County Chorus. This is an annual event which takes place each Spring in honor of Music In Our Schools Month. Students from all elementary schools in St. Lucie County come together to videotape a concert that will be played on Channel 13 as well as in all schools as children all over St. Lucie County learn and sing these songs. Eighth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently showed off their skills in building atoms using a Bohr model when they created an atom of one of the first 13 elements on the periodic table.  Throughout the past two weeks, students have worked hard to understand atomic structure, the periodic table and the behavior of matter. Students then created edible atoms using M and Ms as subatomic particles and cookies as the nucleus to show they are understood how an atom was structured. Palm Pointe faculty, staff and middle school students are all “fired up” because they had the opportunity to hear a powerful message about the importance of transitioning a growth mindset into the will to achieve from guest speaker Principal Baruti Kafele. Kafele, a nationally-renowned public speaker, author, and award winning former educator and principal, is a specialist in “attitude transformation.” His book, Closing the Attitude Gap, speaks to the importance of being mission minded, and developing the necessary passion, purpose, and drive to persevere through challenges in order to succeed in the classroom and in life. #mission ready    

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition promoted Ticket to Read and VMath Live Summermania to the students at the school.  During morning announcements, the Ticket to Read character told all the students about the summer programs and how they could participate on their computers during the summer. Top participants in the program will win Toys R Us gift cards, Barnes and Noble gift cards, and Apple Shuffle MP3 players. The students were very excited to begin these awesome programs. Pictured are Juliette Murray’s fifth grade students, Principal Debra Snyder, back left, and the Ticket to Read character.

Students in Thomas Carr’s eighth grade science classes at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently had a competition for “Boats in the Moat”. The objective was for students to design and construct a boat which when set afloat in a moat 10 feet long will travel (powered solely by a three speed fan) the entire length of the moat in the shortest period of time. Third grade students in Millerlandy Palomino’s class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently researched and presented their findings about different customs and traditions for celebrating the New Year. Students picked a country and did the research for the topic. The parents were invited to their class to hear the students’ reports and see the PowerPoint presentation that was made to support their research. Foods from different countries were brought in to share.  It was a great learning experience as well as a lot of fun!  Pictured is Braylen Lopez as he presents his report on Puerto Rico.

Parents of students at Palm Pointe came to talk to first-grade classes about how they are community helpers and good citizens just like in our book. It was a great way to make text-to-world connections and learn about all the different kinds of helpers in our community!
