Sharks Explore Careers in Construction

SLWK8 students in Ms. Boham’s STEM class explored careers in construction by building houses, adding lighting, and 1-point perspective drafting of an interior room. They started by designing a floor plan. They had to find a sq. ft cost for the state they would like to build in. They followed a template to make precise cuts, making walls and roof pieces to assemble their standing structure. Students then added paint and lighting to their 1-point perspective drawing to finish the house. We have many talented builders, designers, and drafters!

Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies 7th grade science students used models and manipulatives to learn more about waves and their properties. Students rotated through activities using manipulatives such as tuning forks, springs, and rope to help them process concepts regarding the parts of a wave, wave interactions and model longitudinal and transverse waves. Their teacher, Mr. Breedlove,  used a wave simulation model to help students identify various properties of mechanical waves. The wave simulation demonstration had students mesmerized at how a wave disturbance can be slowed down and investigated!

After one hour in the hot August sun, very little melting took place!
