SPMS Students Launch into Science with Marshmallow Challenge

At Southport Middle School, Ms. Tauriello’s 7th-grade science class kicked off the school year with an exciting STEM challenge!  On the first day of school, Ms. Tauriello’s class dove straight into science with an engaging hands-on challenge. Students worked cooperatively to construct the tallest possible structure using spaghetti noodles that could support the weight of a marshmallow. SPMS STEM Students Design and Construct Bridges

At Southport Middle School, Mr. Guntow’s STEM students begin their engineering journey by designing and building bridges, blending creativity with structural principles. SPMS Pep Rally

Southport Middle School had their annual back-to-school pep rally.  During this time students gathered in the gym to listen to SPMS expectations.  Students were also made aware of the character trait for Q1, COURTEOUS.  Students and teachers engaged in some friendly competition to see which team had the best cheer.  Students and teachers also participated in relay races trying to rack up points for their teams.  There was a special appearance made by the school mascot, Ivan the Ibis.  This back-to-school pep rally gears up our SPMS students and increases their school spirit.

SPMS Hosts Their First PBIS Event of the Year

Southport Middle School held its first PBIS event on Friday to reward students with no referrals for the past few weeks. Eligible students were able to choose from a variety of fun activities, including board games, arts and crafts, a movie room, gym free time, outdoor play, and tech games. This event was designed to recognize and encourage positive behavior, giving students a chance to relax and enjoy themselves. SPMS Celebrates Bus Driver Appreciation Day

School Bus Driver Appreciation Day is observed annually on the fourth Tuesday of April.  This year it was Tuesday, April 22nd! Southport Middle School bus drivers were welcomed with wholesome breakfast treats and a beverage when dropping the students off in the morning. Students also made handwritten cards for the bus drivers expressing their gratitude and appreciation because a little ‘thank you’ goes miles. Spirit of St. Lucie Community Impact Award

St. Lucie Public Schools is honored to have been named as the recipient of this year’s United Way “Spirit of St. Lucie Community Impact Award.” This award is conferred annually on an organization that demonstrates outstanding contributions within St. Lucie County to one or more of the United Way core impact areas of focus that include Health, Education, and Income.  

Spirit Animal Creations

CAST artists in Ms. Swabon’s Visual Arts class were inspired by the Australian Papunya culture and community to create their own spirit animals. Their sensational artwork was showcased at the St. Lucie County Fair and embodied the theme of, “Dream Makers -Arts, Academics, and Athletics.”    

“Spillin’ the Tea Since 1773!” at Palm Pointe

This week, our 8th-grade Historians at Palm Pointe took a step back in time—dressing in delightful tea party attire to bring history to life! As part of their daily lesson on the Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Acts, students immersed themselves in the revolutionary spirit of 1773. Minus the powdered wigs and petticoats, the classroom was transformed into a scene straight out of colonial America. Spelling bee winners emerge at F.K. Sweet Elementary

It took over 30 rounds to declare the 2012 spelling bee winners at F.K. Sweet Elementary. The best of the spellers from each fourth and fifth grade class recently took stage  to spell some very difficult words. In the end, pictured from left, Rida Ahmed emerged as the winner, followed by second place speller Cassie Ackenbrack, and Ariel Neptune took third place. Congratulations on a job well done.
