At SLW Centennial, Spanish students recently brought their language lessons to life by preparing and sharing homemade dishes in class. This hands-on culinary project was the culmination of their unit on food, ingredients, and formal commands, allowing students to apply their grammar skills in a meaningful and memorable way.
Each student or group was tasked with creating a recipe entirely in Spanish, using the formal command structure they had been studying. From “Corte las papas” to “Añada el arroz,” students practiced giving clear, polite instructions.
Once their recipes were written, students prepared their dishes at home and brought them in to share with their peers. Students sampled each other’s creations and presented their recipes, explaining the ingredients and steps in Spanish.
This project was more than just a fun break from routine—it was an immersive learning experience that combined language, culture, and collaboration.
