Major Godfrey and Sergeant First Class Lewis hosted an Army Robotics Demonstration for students involved with JROTC, Robotics, and students recently recognized for their PBIS efforts. The students engaged in interactive demonstrations with bomb disposal and surveillance robotics.
The Panther Band learned so much from the first game and worked hard to improve their show! Their determination and dedication is everything. The band is focusing on their goals and utilizing Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind. Keep it up!
The PBIS Prize Patrol is in full swing at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy! Each week, members of the PBIS Committee visits classrooms to reward students who follow our S.M.A.R.T Expectations (Safety, Mindful, Accountable, Respectful, and Think Win-Win). Students are selected by staff and placed into drawings each week. They are eligible to win gift cards and tickets to athletic events. Students in Ms. Hoots’ Drawing 1 class teamed up to learn about composition in visual art. In this exercise, one student is the artist and works with their eyes closed while their partner uses descriptive language to describe the composition. The more specific the instructions, the more successful the blind artist is. Lots of laughs ensued!
Junior Elizabeth Rufo was nominated by Agriculture teacher Mrs. Blankenbaker, to join the Agriculture Education Institute through the University of Florida. This summer, she signed a letter of intent to teach Agriculture Education at the state FFA Convention. Over the next year, she will be mentored by an Agriculture Education instructor and it will provide her an opportunity to have a direct link to UF and the Agriculture Education College after high school. She was also selected as an Ambassador for the program. We are so proud of you Elizabeth!
Students in Mrs. Munne’s World History class have been learning about the similarities and differences of Feudalism in Europe and Japan. As part of the unit, they are creating Feudal Villages of LEGOs to show the differences.

Students in Mrs. Watson’s psychology class were asked to research and make a visual summery poster of one of six psychological approaches and career paths. Students collaborated as they got creative with their research!
Students in Mr. Harrigan’s class synergized during a team-building STEAM activity. Students were challenged to build a tower strong enough to hold a marshmallow but were only given spaghetti, tape, and string. Students enjoyed getting to know their classmates as they worked together as a team!
Band students have been practicing non-stop to prepare for Friday night’s debut at Westwood’s first home football game for the 22-23 season. Students have shown serious dedication through summer-long band camp and practices after school with Band Director Mr. Auguste. We look forward to seeing them hit the field!
All Panthers attended a Back to School Assembly led by administration to go over Fort Pierce Westwood Academy expectations such as being fully present, academically focused, and treating others the way we want to be treated. In addition, administration reviewed the dress code, attendance, and tardy policies, as well as various school-wide procedures.
Incoming 9th graders enjoyed an information-packed orientation filled with sessions on Fort Pierce Westwood Academy’s magnet programs, graduation requirements, and a scavenger hunt around campus. Welcome Class of 2026!
Fort Pierce Westwood Academy teachers and staff geared up for a great school year at the annual MSAP Symposium! Presentations were made by Superintendent Dr. Jon Prince, State Representative Dana Trabulsy, and Microsoft Education Industry Executive Victoria Thompson. Teachers continued their learning with a presentation from the Oxbow Center about invasive species; then STEAM lessons were created for students to dive deep into this topic this year!
Westwood teachers and staff enjoyed a historic tour of Fort Pierce led by Mayor Linda Hudson, former Mayor Bob Benton, and St. Lucie County Planning Manager Kori Benton. Locations such as the Zora Neale Hurston Library, the A.E. Backus Museum, and Old City Hall were highlighted as well as the surrounding neighborhoods where many students reside. Thank you to our wonderful tour guides for starting this preservice week with information about our beautiful city.
Students at CAST enjoyed a fun night of pizza, raffles, and STEAM activities at our annual STEAM Night. There were different activities for grade groups such as playing with kinetic sand, painting with puffy paint, creating their own musical instruments to learn about vibrations, and designing chemical reaction cars. It was a fun night of learning!
Kindergarten, first, and second-grade students learned all about fire safety, and they also learned about our firefighter friends from St. Lucie County’s Engine 15! Students now know how to check smoke detectors, how to make a fire escape plan, and how to call 9-1-1! Thank you for keeping us safe!
We are so proud of our leaders at CAST! We are so happy to be able to recognize our Leaders of the Month who demonstrate exemplary leadership skills in the Leader in Me Habit 6 “Synergize”, and Habit 7 “Sharpen the Saw”, in our first live ceremony this year. Our Student Ambassadors helped run the ceremony and our sixth-grade dancers performed. Way to go CAST performers!
