Summer PD Opportunity: Math Strategies for ESE Teachers

The Office of Teaching and Learning is excited to share a summer professional development opportunity with ESE teachers.  Join us for a hands-on session in which we will discuss strategies and resources to use when supporting Math instruction with your ESE Students. Savanna Ridge Young Author Class Winners Celebrate with Sundaes!

Fourth Graders at Savanna Ridge are Math Fluency Stars!

Fourth graders at Savanna Ridge Elementary took part in a math fluency fact challenge.  Those who met the math fluency expectations in each class got to eat their lunch outside with the Assistant Principal, Mrs. Melrose, and were treated to cupcakes.  Way to go fourth grade math superstars!

Kindergartners at Savanna Ridge Track Their Sight Words

Kindergartners in Mrs. Warren’s class proudly show off their sight word progress by tracking their achievement.  The teacher then conferences with students individually about where they are, and they set new sight word goals.  What a fun, interactive way to show what you know as you learn and grow.

Savanna Ridge Third Graders Learn about Plants at Heathcote Botanical Gardens!

Mrs. Marino, a third grade teacher at Savanna Ridge Elementary School, was a Target Field Trip Grant recipient for the 2015/16 school year.  Therefore, third grade students benefited by enjoying a fantastic field trip to Heathcote Botanical Gardens as they explored the life of plants. They learned about the basic structures in plants, how plants respond to stimuli, and understood how plants use the sun, air, and water to make their own food. Savanna Ridge Staff Supports Relay for Life

Staff at Savanna Ridge Elementary enjoyed supporting Relay for Life at the Annual Walk at Tradition Stadium in St. Lucie West.  Staff members enjoyed taking part in various activities throughout the year to fund-raise for the school Relay for Life team such as Coins for Cancer.

Kindergarten Students at Savanna Ridge Travel Back in Time With Their Writing

Students in Mrs. Warren’s Kindergarten classroom are learning about “People and Events of Now and Long Ago.”  Students compared and contrasted what school was like long ago versus now.  Then they had an opportunity to practice writing their name and drawing a picture with a quill feather and paint to replicate the tools used by students long ago.

Savanna Ridge Third Graders and Keiser University students send letters to the Military

Third grade students in Mrs. Shukri’s class enjoyed working with Keiser University students who were previously in the military.  The Keiser University students read a children’s book to the class that was created by a soldier.  It explained why military parents may seem different when they get home to their families due to PTSD.  They also explained their jobs and where they have traveled while serving in the military. Students worked with the Keiser students to make Christmas cards for the soldiers overseas for the upcoming holiday season.

Savanna Ridge Students and Staff Raise Money for PTO Turkey Fundraiser!

Students at Savanna Ridge Elementary raised money during a recent PTO fundraiser whereby the winners wore turkey costumes for the day. Mr. Clements (5th grade teacher) and Mrs. Fletcher (2nd grade teacher) were good sports and wore turkey costumes for the day since they were the ones who raised the most money for the fundraiser.   They are pictured with the SRE Morning News Team members and Savanna Ridge’s PTO President Ericka Goyes after they announced it on the Morning News Show.

Savanna Ridge Kindergarten is the Place to Be!

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Christopher’s Kindergarten class at Savanna Ridge Elementary were excited for their first day of school.  Mrs. Christopher welcomed them with open arms and enjoyed taking a first day of school picture to capture the special day!

Savanna Ridge VPK Families Enjoyed a Day of Learning!

Students in Ms. Fuller’s VPK class enjoyed showing their family members what a day of learning is like in their classroom.  Families enjoyed center rotations with their VPK child.  Students and parents read books in the listening center, explored reading fundamentals via online programs, used manipulatives and many other engaging activities.  Thank you to our VPK families for attending our Family VPK Day!

Savanna Ridge Student Council Serve Those in Need

Student Council members at Savanna Ridge helped serve meals at Matthews Café of Grace Way Village on Sunday.  They provide a healthy hot meal, every Sunday from 5:00-6:00 p.m. for those in need.  What a great way for our students to show the community they care by helping others.

Savanna Ridge Students and Publix Make Mothers Day Sweet!

Second grade students at Savanna Ridge Elementary partnered with Publix to help make Mother’s Day special for their loved ones.  Publix brought cakes to Savanna Ridge and helped second graders decorate them as a Mother’s Day sweet treat.  Thank you to Tina and Christine from Publix for assisting our students.

James Dean from Thinking Maps Skyped students in Mrs. de la Cruz Kindergarten class at Savanna Ridge Elementary and read the book, Tough Boris by Mem Fox.  Students in VPK through fifth grade enjoyed special guest readers from the community, district personnel and volunteers that came to read their favorite stories to students in classrooms.

Savanna Ridge Students celebrate Literacy Week with Bingo for Books

Students at Savanna Ridge Elementary enjoyed celebrating Literacy Week 2015 with Books, Bingo and Baked Ziti night.  Students and families came out for a delicious baked ziti dinner and played multiple rounds of Bingo.  There were many smiling faces as students were able to come up on stage and pick a book of their choice after winning!
