Fort Pierce Central High School senior Adreana Piekara and freshman Vincent Piekara recently donated a Little Free Library to Turtle Run Park with the help of their mother, Vanessa Piekara, a teacher at Bayshore Elementary School.
The family worked together to provide the community with free access to books in hopes of encouraging a love of reading and promoting literacy among children and families throughout the area. The Little Library operates on a simple concept: community members are invited to take a book to read and leave a book for others to enjoy, helping create a shared culture of learning and literacy.
Adreana, a senior at Fort Pierce Central High School, balances a rigorous academic schedule through dual enrollment coursework while training in the Pre-Professional Program at St. Lucie Ballet. Her younger brother, Vincent, is a freshman at Fort Pierce Central High School and a dedicated competitive soccer player. Together, they wanted to make a meaningful impact in their community by expanding access to books and fostering a love of reading among local families.
“Our hope is that this Little Library will inspire children and families to read more often and discover the joy of books,” said the Piekara family.
Vanessa Piekara, who teaches at Bayshore Elementary School, understands the vital role literacy plays in student success. By partnering on this project as a family, they hope to encourage lifelong reading habits and create opportunities for learning beyond the classroom.
The Little Library is now available at Turtle Run Park for residents to enjoy, serving as a reminder that small acts of service can make a lasting difference in promoting literacy, learning, and community engagement.
