Classrooms2Careers: FCHC Volunteer/Intern Experience

Celebrating St. Lucie Public Schools’ First Official Florida Community Health Centers Student Volunteer/Intern!

Indya Burchell, a senior at Treasure Coast High School, has become the first official student volunteer/intern with Florida Community Health Centers (FCHC)!

Indya discovered this exciting opportunity through her father, who works at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy and shared a flyer distributed to the school from the District’s Career Coaches. She reached out on December 1, 2025, interviewed the very next day, and officially began her volunteer orientation on January 5, 2026.

As part of the onboarding process, Indya submitted her resume, completed the FCHC application packet, and successfully met all requirements.

Indya is also a dual-enrolled student and on track to earn her Associate’s degree in Health Science this spring. Her ultimate dream? To become a pediatric endocrinologist—a goal that reflects her passion for healthcare and helping children.

In her volunteer role at the Darwin Center, Indya will assist with administrative tasks such as appointment reminder calls, answering and directing calls, and helping patients with MyChart setup. Additionally, she will gain valuable experience through clinical shadowing, including preparing exam rooms for patients.

This milestone highlights the incredible opportunities available to our students through community alliances under the Classrooms2Careers initiative and the efforts of our Career Coaches. Congratulations, Indya—we are proud of your initiative and excited to see your journey unfold!
