Spotlight on Learning: Math Meets Movement at Oak Hammock K-8

At Oak Hammock K-8, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door—it stretches into the gym, where elementary students are discovering that math and movement make a powerful team! This week, our Physical Education program took an exciting turn by integrating 3rd grade math standards into hands-on activities that brought geometry to life.

Students explored key concepts like area, perimeter, quadrilaterals, and symmetry through dynamic games and challenges that encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and physical engagement. Each activity was carefully designed to reinforce Florida’s 3rd grade math benchmarks while making learning active and fun.

Throughout the week, students used math vocabulary in real-time, applying terms to describe their movements, strategies, and observations. Whether measuring the perimeter or area of shapes made out of jump ropes, learners were immersed in a rich, cross-curricular experience that deepened their understanding and boosted their confidence.

By blending academic content with physical activity, Oak Hammock K-8 continues to champion innovative approaches that make learning meaningful and memorable. This fusion of math and PE not only supports academic growth—it fosters collaboration, creativity, and a love for learning that soars beyond the classroom.
