On Friday, May 16, 2025, the Port St. Lucie community came together for the vibrant “Kickin’ It For Andrew” 5K Color Run, hosted at Manatee Academy K-8 School. This annual event, organized by the Andrew Schmeer Foundation, honors the memory of Andrew Schmeer, who tragically lost his life in a car accident on September 8, 2014. The foundation continues his legacy by raising funds to provide college scholarships for well-rounded students along the Treasure Coast, as well as supporting animal rescues and children’s charities.
This year’s event was particularly special, as proceeds were dedicated to honoring Mrs. Cynthia Dekle, a beloved staff member at Manatee K-8. Participants donned white shirts and traversed a colorful 5K course, celebrating both Andrew’s legacy and Mrs. Dekle’s impact on the community. Members of the Dekle family were in attendance and were presented with a plaque and bench in memory of their loved one. These memorials were placed on campus to remember and honor her legacy. The evening also featured a post-race gathering with refreshments, fostering a sense of unity and support among attendees. The Andrew Schmeer Foundation remains committed to its mission, ensuring that Andrew’s spirit continues to inspire positive change in the community.
