Rebecca Mendez-Solis, a dedicated and hardworking student, was honored with a full scholarship to Indian River State College (IRSC) at the prestigious Take Stock in Children Awards Ceremony on April 29. She was joined in celebration by her mentor and reading teacher, Ms. Collins, who provided invaluable guidance and support throughout her academic journey.
Take Stock in Children is a transformative program designed to assist first-generation students in achieving their educational goals by providing crucial post-secondary completion and degree attainment support services. Each year, this initiative helps aspiring scholars by offering them the resources and mentorship necessary to navigate the path toward higher education successfully.
To qualify for this distinguished scholarship, recipients were required to sign a contract committing to several important principles. They pledged to maintain strong academic performance, uphold good behavior, and refrain from involvement with negative substances. Additionally, each participant was expected to meet with their mentor at least 15 times annually, ensuring they received consistent encouragement and guidance.
Students who successfully met these rigorous standards earned the opportunity to receive a four-year tuition scholarship to attend IRSC. Alternatively, they could opt for a two-year scholarship at IRSC followed by two years at another Florida public college or university, allowing them the flexibility to further their education in an institution that best suits their aspirations.
