Westwood Army JROTC Competes in Raider Meet

The Westwood Army JROTC Raider Team competed in an Area 3 Raider Meet at Port St Lucie High School.

Raider Meets are very physical competitions that the Cadets train for every week during “Raider Season” (Mon-Thurs 2 pm-4 pm). The team attends 4-6 of these meets per fall. The Westwood Cadets squared off against eight other teams from various high schools located all along the Treasure Coast.

For this competition we had (1) male team of ten Cadets and (1) mixed team of ten Cadets representing the Panther Battalion.

The events for this meet included:

5k Team Run: All 10 members of each team are required to complete an approximately 3-mile run as a group.

1-Mile Cross Country Casualty Evacuation Run: For this event, teams carry a stretcher with 100 pounds on it and three 25–30-pound rucksacks for a mile.

Rope Bridge: The teams must construct a rope bridge over a simulated “stream” with each Cadet crossing the rope wearing a Swiss Rappelling Seat w/a carabiner clip

Tire Flip: The teams are split into two groups of five and they must flip a 300-pound heavy equipment tire a total of 300 feet.

HMMWV (Humvee) Push: The teams are split into two groups of five and they must push an armor-plated vehicle a total of 300 feet.

Half-Mile Guide-On Run: One Cadet from each of the competing schools sprinted a half-mile while carrying the Raider Team Flag.

Our teams left it all on the field today, out of the 9-school field here is how the Panther Raider Team fared:

HMMWV (Humvee) Push: Male Team placed 2nd

Half-Mile Guide-On run: Cadet Malakii Wheeler placed 1st

5k run: Mixed Team placed 4th

1-mile Cross Country Casualty Evac Run: Mixed Team placed 4th

Rope Bridge: Male Team placed 5th

Tire Flip: Mixed Team placed 5th

Huge praise is going out to these tough Panthers today. Way to go!
