On January 6th, SLW Centennial High School held its second annual Student Recovery Day. This is a heartfelt initiative aimed at reconnecting with students who had chronic absences and low GPAs during the first semester. Teachers, counselors, and staff members split into teams to visit approximately 65 families, reaching out to students who had been struggling with attendance and academic performance.
The primary goal of these visits is to let students and their families know that they are missed and valued members of the school community. By emphasizing the importance of daily attendance, the school hopes to encourage students to return to their classes and engage more fully in their education. During these visits, staff members also took the time to assess whether students were facing any social, academic, or other hardships that might be contributing to their absences and low performance.
By identifying these challenges, the school can implement necessary interventions to help students have a more positive and successful experience when they return to school. The ultimate aim is to connect with students on a personal level, offering encouragement and support to show that the school cares about their well-being and academic success.
The impact of Student Recovery Day was immediately evident, as more than half of the students visited attended school when classes resumed on January 6th. This initiative not only highlights the dedication of SLW Centennial High School’s staff but also underscores the importance of community and support in fostering student success.
Through efforts like Student Recovery Day, SLW Centennial High School continues to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive, both academically and personally.
