‘Egg’-citing Readers at CAST

Kindergarten students at CAST hunted for their sight words! Once they found their sight words, they could enjoy their treats! Student leaders helped our little friends find their sight words. Practicing out sight words helps us become ‘egg-traordinary’ readers. 

Efficacy Program at Bayshore

Third grade students from Bayshore Elementary School were recently recognized for completing the Efficacy for Students Program.  Throughout the program students learned strategies to empower their learning, such as using data to create meaningful feedback and strategies for success.  They also developed a greater sense of self-confidence by learning to choose their strong side to build character.  Pictured (from left to right) are Katherine Clark, Reese Adams, RJ McWilliams, Mrs. Reid (Bayshore Principal), and Mariah Lewis.

Educators Helping Educators

Educators coming together to help educators is the underlying theme of this year’s annual West Gate K8 Hispanic Heritage Festival and Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, November 18th on the school’s campus located at 1050 NW Cashmere Blvd. in Port Saint Lucie.  Community members are invited to enjoy music, games, live performances, and a variety of food from 1PM to 5PM. Educators Attend Institute With Dr. Norman Webb

Education leaders caution comparing 2012 school grades due to credibility issues of revamped accountability system

Fort Pierce, FL — School grades for Florida’s public schools for the 2011-2012 school year are expected to be released in early July, according to the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). The announcement of school grades was delayed this year from FLDOE compared to previous years’ release schedules due to the implementation of significant changes this year and the complexity of the new Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT 2.0), its higher scoring scale, new high school end-of-course core subject testing procedures, and higher cut scores for school grades. Education Foundation Scholarship Awards Ceremony at Fort Pierce Central High School

On Monday, May 1st the Education Foundation held a Reception followed by a Ceremony to recognize senior students graduating from St. Lucie County Public High Schools who demonstrated exemplary Academic performance and Leadership. The Education Foundation awarded 55 scholarships totaling 69,000 dollars in scholarships to students. Scholarships through the Education Foundation provide an opportunity to help students continue to succeed after graduation and assist them with pursuing post-secondary education goals. We are so proud of each of them and wish them success in their futures!

Education Foundation presents computers to teachers recognized for technology in the classroom

The St. Lucie County Education Foundation, through its Teacher of Excellence Utilizing Technology Grant, presented laptop computers from corporate sponsor Dell, to honor teachers who are currently utilizing technology to both enhance the curriculum in an innovative manner and to motivate engaged student learning in the classroom. Education Foundation of St. Lucie County

Thom Jones, Executive Director of the Education Foundation of St. Lucie County, provided an end-of-year update to the School Board. The St. Lucie County Education Foundation was founded in 1990 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization whose purpose is to support the teachers and students of the St. Lucie County School District through programs not funded by tax revenue.

Education Foundation kicks off ‘Get On the Bus’ campaign

The St. Lucie Education Foundation has kicked off its “Get On the Bus” campaign to enhance community awareness of its variety of initiatives to benefit public education in St. Lucie County and encourage community involvement in those programs. The local initiative is part of the statewide foundation consortium drive to increase support of public education through local foundations. The local Education Foundation provides multiple vehicles for individuals and organizations to make a positive difference in education through volunteer efforts, contributions, and celebrations of teachers and students. Education Foundation Grants Awarded

St. Lucie County’s Education Foundation awarded 33 grants to teachers throughout the district. Executive Director Thom Jones indicated that the grants represent a $50,000.00 investment in quality educational programs to benefit student achievement.
