Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s faculty and staff returned to work a week early to attend multiple training sessions all week for technology and instruction. We are geared up and ready to start the school year.

Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Criminal Justice students toured the St. Lucie County Emergency Operation center. This tour was hosted by St. Lucie County Officials and the Human Resources Department. Students gained insight on potential careers and how to utilize their industry certification starting this summer! Students were excited and look forward to the many opportunities right here in St. Lucie County.

The Key Club, Student Government, and Senior Class Officers kicked off the “START with Hello” initiative to address social isolation. Their goal is to help create a school where everyone feels connected and included. Students wore identifying t-shirts and gave bracelets to those with whom they interacted. The Speakers Bureau Special Guest Speakers at Ft. Pierce Westwood High School this month were Mr. Randy Roundtree, Mr. Darcy McFolley, Mr. Thernell Mills, and Mrs. Shaniek Maynard.   All the speakers expressed to the students the importance of making the right choices as they journey through life. The central theme that was expressed by all the speakers was, “It’s okay to be different and not follow the crowd.”

FPWHS could not be prouder of our senior student athletes today. Many THANK YOUs to parents, friends, family, teachers and staff members who have supported these students on their journey as they fulfill their dreams. ST. LUCIE COUNTY – Fort Pierce Westwood High School has earned the first College Board AP®Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles. Schools honored with the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award have expanded girls’ access in AP Computer Science courses. Congrats to Mr. Wilks for being selected as an Applebee’s Above & “Bee-Yond” Teacher! Students wrote essays about the impact of his teaching. He was awarded a $500 check for his classroom. We are so proud of you!

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy 10th graders Berkley Barnes and Paige Cruse spent their spring break in the Florida capitol. This was Berkley’s 3rd year in The House Page & Messenger Program under Representative Dana Trabulsy. Paige came up to celebrate Ag Week at the Capitol and lobby with the Florida Cattlemen‘s Association. She had the opportunity to meet many of Florida’s most influential and gain more skill sets.

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy CNA students completed their first day of clinicals at Port Saint Lucie Rehabilitation and Healthcare. We are so proud of them as they work to complete this certification!

Today was the opening day of the Student Perks Coffee Cart and Fort Pierce Westwood Academy students in Ms. Cooper’s class got to be the first helpers! It is at the County Annex building on Virginia and 25th each Tuesday. Students from all the high schools rotate weeks to have the opportunity to learn skills for employment and customer service skills. They sell coffee, bagels, pastries, fruit, and tea. Students in Mrs. McCargo’s class worked towards earning their CPR certification exam. They worked hard to learn these skills, we are so proud of them!  

Congrats to the students in Ms. Cooper’s class for earning their certification of completion in their life skills class with Mrs. Elliassaint. We are so proud of their hard work!

Students in Ms. Cooper’s class finished up a unit on heat transfer. They studied conduction and had to follow a recipe to apply the science concepts they learned!    

Students in Mrs. Cooper’s class are learning about heat transfer such as conduction, convection and radiation. We made mug cakes in the microwave using radiation. Yummy and educational!
