F. K. Sweet students study the elements of art

Pictured, from left, F. K. Sweet Elementary School fourth grade students Tanyia Chery, Emma Brosnihan, Calvin Bowens, and Quinlen Meservey have been working with the elements of art to create the cover of their sketchbooks. The elements include the study of line, shape, color, value, form, texture, and space. The students used all the elements except value and form to create their designs. The students use their sketchbooks throughout the school year to practice their drawing skills, take notes, and for some writing assignments to enhance the academics.

Frances K Sweet Students have Visitors on Chess Day

Dr. Kevin Perry and Mrs. Genelle Yost spent time observing Mrs. Lisa McGuire’s third grade class playing chess.  The chess program called “First Move” was implemented this school year for all Second and Third grade classes at Frances K. Sweet Magnet School.  The children are learning how to use and deepen their critical thinking skills through this program. Frances K Sweet second graders explore forces that shape the Earth

Students in Mrs. Stacey Johnson’s second grade enrichment group at Frances K. Sweet Elementary school are learning about forces that shape our Earth. Frances K Sweet remembers their local heros

In honor of the anniversary of 9/11, students in all grade levels at Frances K. Sweet wrote letters and cards to their local police and firefighters thanking them for their service to the community. The letters will be delivered to the Fort Pierce Police Department and the St. Lucie County Fire Department on Wednesday, September 11th. Pictured is fourth grader Ava McGoorty.  

Frances K Sweet Law Poster Winner

Ruben Medina, second grader at Frances K Sweet, won $75.00 for his law poster, for the 12th Annual Law Day Reception and Art Contest. Mrs. Cary Schott is so proud of her art students.

Frances K Sweet Kindergarteners Make Connections with Literature

Kindergartners in Melanie Francisco’s Class at F.K.Sweet Magnet School related to The Little Red Hen’s lesson about working together in order to enjoy the final product.   The students helped their teacher make cupcakes and then they were able to frost them and eat them as a reward for their efforts.  Anthony Crouse and Thomas Ham stopped working just long enough to smile for the camera.

Frances K. Sweet kindergarteners add details to writing

After reading the story of the week, “David’s Drawings”, students in Melanie Francisco’s kindergarten class created their own class drawing like David’s.  Kenna Reichard, left, and La Teya Weathers added details to help create a one of a kind masterpiece.

Frances K. Sweet Kindergarten Loves Volunteers

Kindergarten students at Frances K. Sweet loved having employees from the City of Fort Pierce volunteer in the classrooms.  Morgan Haupt’s students: Carter Stokes, Tyler Li, and Sienna Mills enjoyed listening to a story and playing a game of sight word Bingo with Kevin Browning.

Frances K Sweet Kindergarten Flower Power

Frances K. Sweet Hits Big in the Stock Market Challenge

Students in the fourth and fifth grade Challenge Program at Frances K. Sweet participated in the Stock Market Challenge sponsored by the Florida Council on Economic Education. Teams were competing to win first, second, or third place for the Elementary Division in our region. Members of the first place team (Josiah Fullwood, Yazmin Sosa, and Carmela Bustamante) each earned a $50.00 Papa John’s gift card and shared a $100.00 cash prize.

Frances K. Sweet Has Fun at Their PBIS Event

Frances K. Sweet celebrated the last day before the Thanksgiving holiday by having their monthly PBIS event. Ms. Marla Liberatore’s 3rd grade class brought in their favorite games to play with their friends. Students enjoyed playing board games like Monopoly, Sorry, and Hedbanz, and card games like UNO and Crazy Eights. Everyone enjoyed spending their Starbucks to play with their friends at this event. Frances K Sweet girls cheer for LPA

Varsity cheerleaders from Lincoln Park Academy hosted cheer camp at Frances K. Sweet Elementary recently. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade had the opportunity to learn cheers, chants, and enjoy a dance. The students then performed for a packed crowd at an LPA’s boys’ basketball game.

Frances K. Sweet Fourth Graders Go Bananas

Fourth grade students at Frances K. Sweet explored the Law of Conservation of Mass by demonstrating that the mass of a whole object is always the same as the sum of the masses of its parts by finding the percentage of a banana that is edible.  Pictured are from the left, Aidan Herrera and Christopher Gomez.

Frances K. Sweet Fourth Grader Wins the Race for St. Jude

Frances K. Sweet staff held their annual Sunrise Stampede 5K/Kid Fun Run in beautiful Fort Pierce on February 27th.  Dorian Newbern was thrilled to award the first place overall prize to fourth grader Raymond Coburn.  He completed the course, which included running over South Beach Bridge twice, in 24 minutes and 17 seconds.  All proceeds will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Frances K. Sweet First Graders Make Butter

Students from Mrs. Cindy Langel’s 1st grade class are comparing life now with life in the past.  After learning about how people in the past prepared food, the students used heavy whipping cream to create homemade butter. FPWHS Welcomes New Chef

Fort Pierce Westwood High School students welcomed their new culinary instructor Chef Jeanne Gray! The students and Chef Gray baked sweet treats for Valentine’s Day.
