Gaines Academy participates in parade

 Gaines Academy cheerleaders and student council members participated in the Sights and Sounds Parade on Second Street in Fort Pierce recently, and despite the rain fun was had by all. Gaines Academy older students assist younger students with survey

During Megan Schwenger’s computer class at Samuel Gaines Academy, middle school student Julian Maso De Mayo assists kindergartner Luther Edmond in completing an eight question PBS survey. The survey asks students various questions about how they earn Colt cash and what they want to spend Colt cash on.  The PBS team will then take the results of this survey to better implement the use of Colt cash at Samuel Gaines Academy.  

Gaines Academy March Madness

Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies kindergarten has officially started their March Madness sight word fun!!! For each word a student earns, they will get to take one shot. With every three shots they earn, they move up on the winner’s bracket until we have a sight word champion!

Gaines Academy Lady Colts win championship

The Samuel S. Gaines Academy’s Lady Colts basketball team won the 2013 St. Lucie County Interamurals Girls division A basketball championship with an overall win 26-10. Thank you to Donella Crenshaw and Shauna Cobb for devoting their time and talent in leading the girls to become champions. Gaines Academy kindergartners make and fly kites

Gaines Academy kindergartners, from left, Mauricio Murillo-Rojo,  Angel Raya, and Roberto Luna Jr. from Tracy Davis’ class were full of excitement flying their paper-bag kites. The students made the kites during a writing assignment where they had to write step by step directions on how to make a paper-bag kite.

Gaines Academy Kids@Hope Garden

During Spring Break, thirty Home Depot employees and volunteers enhanced the Samuel S. Gaines Academy campus with a Kids at Hope Garden. Volunteers installed an irrigation system, built plant boxes and fences, transplanted trees, and beautified the garden area with new sod and mulch. This garden will be a school-wide, student-managed initiative to learn how to plant, grow, and maintain a variety of crops. The SGA Kids at Hope Committee, in partnership with the St. Lucie Education Foundation Inc., applied for and was awarded a grant from The Home Depot Foundation to fund construction of this vegetable and herb garden. … Read More

Gaines Academy installs tables outside for positive environment for students

Gaines Academy recently intalled new picnic tables outside the gym to help promote a positive school environment.  Some of Kimberly Masters’ third grade students were the first to take advantage of using these tables while enjoying their lunch. Gaines Academy Holiday Travels

With suitcases in hand, Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies Kindergarten embarked on a journey around the world to learn all about the different holiday traditions in each country. With passports stamped, students read and wrote about one country each day and built their knowledge on holiday traditions celebrated everywhere!

Gaines Academy Help in Turtle Rehab

The Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies 4th grade STOP and STEM challenge was to design a protective shell for Turtle Rehab Foundation to attach to an injured turtle’s body (Myrtle) so that she can return safely to her environment and survive the risks of harmful predators. Then, they created a turtle sanctuary in Minecraft. Great job, 4th grade COLTS!

Gaines Academy Hands-On Shapes

Second-grade students at Samuel S. Gaines of Emerging Technologies learned all about two and three-dimensional shapes. They used toothpicks and marshmallows to create models of the shapes. After creating their model, they recorded the number of edges, vertices, and faces. We love hands-on learning at SGAET!

Gaines Academy Hands-on Learning

Mr. Nicks’ 8th grade science class is back with even more hands-on learning. Students were able to measure and calculate the exact mass and volumes of various objects and substances using several different methods. Students were able to experience using science lab instruments and techniques such as using triple-beam balances, graduated cylinders, and performing water displacement calculations.

Gaines Academy girls basketball team A goes undefeated

Gaines Academy K8 Girls A Basketball team beat West Gate K8 Girls B team with a score of 29 to 12, going undefeated in the regular season. Savannah Houle and Michaela Kelly were the high scorers with 13 points and 9 points, respectively. Gaines Academy FSA Escape Room

Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies eighth graders prepared for the state science assessment by finding the keys to success and the keys to the door of their classroom. Mr. Nicks’ eighth grade science students successfully found their way out of their FSA escape room challenge. Tasked with decoding cyphers, problem solving, and testing their middle school science knowledge; the students worked as a team and found the keys needed to exit the science room.

Gaines Academy fourth graders share projects with other students

Students in Andrea Blackburn’s fourth grade class at Samuel Gaines Academy presented Black History Projects to students in K-5 grades.  The students had all of February to study their subject and create their project.  They became experts in who they studied and were able to present to anyone that came by to check them out.  All that participated in the Black History Fair were very impressed by the amount of knowledge the students had about the person they studied.  Parents enjoyed coming the night before to review their child’s projects as well. Gaines Academy first grade students experiment with volcanos

First grade students from Lyndsey Matheny’s class at Gaines Academy built a volcano during Angella Bennett’s science resource class.  Miranda Resendiz explained the experiment of creating a volcano using modeling clay, adding baking soda and red food coloring, and lastly vinegar, which caused the liquid to come out of the volcano! Gaines Academy families enjoy writing night

 There was a lot of learning about writing skills during the Family Writing Night recently at Sam Gaines Academy K8 School, which included a chicken dinner and ending with a door prize drawing. Pictured is seventh grader Alexis Langel and her father holding the door prize they won.

Gaines Academy families enjoy reading together

Thank you to the families and staff that participated in the Samuel Gaines Academy Literacy Night, parents learned about the 100 book challenge while the students picked out a book to read to their parents and also choose a book to take home to keep.
