On May 18th, the Treasure Coast Literacy Association hosted its annual Young Authors Celebration at Oak Hammock K-8 School. Parents accompanied their young authors to this festive celebration of literary successes. .

This year, the third annual Northport Faith In Literacy Summer Reading Program is off to a great start. The First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie congregation collected 3,600 new and gently used books to provide students with enough books to start a stack of summer reading books in their homes. Students learned about the importance of summer reading and not letting their skills in reading slide back. They enjoyed selecting ten books each. International Business Students from Treasure Coast High School attended the 11th Annual Treasure Coast Business Summit (TCBS) — the Treasure Coast’s largest business-to-business summit and expo, providing a networking and educational experience for International Business Academy students to meet business leaders and professionals, learn about current opportunities, and establish relationships for internships, volunteer opportunities, and connections with local sponsors.
Congressman Brian Mast took time out his busy schedule on April 23rd to meet with the AFJROTC cadets of Treasure Coast High School. Addressing them for an hour in the school’s auditorium, he spoke passionately about keys to success in life after high school, sharing his own personal life experiences to both educate and inspire the cadets towards reaching their goals. Additionally, he addressed civic responsibility and patriotism. It was a huge honor for the cadets to have an audience with their congressman and be allowed to ask him a lot of questions.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – The St. Lucie County Library System’s Summer Reading Challenge returns offering families a new digital online tracking system. The Summer Reading Blast Off Challenge runs June 1 through Aug. 3 offering students a chance to win a free Kindle Fire (one will be given out at each of the seven branch libraries), as well as tickets to a St. Lucie Mets baseball game or an all-day pass to St. Lucie County Pools or the St. Lucie County Aquarium. St. Lucie Public Schools welcomed this year’s Chamber of Commerce Leadership St. Lucie class for two stops on its “Education Day Tour.” The day began with a hearty and healthy breakfast prepared by students in Fort Pierce Central High School’s Culinary Academy and sponsored by the St. Lucie County Education Foundation. The group toured innovative programs including: Aeronautics, Digital Design, and Allied Health. Criminal Justice seniors from St. Lucie Public Schools were afforded the opportunity to be recognized by President Leslie Kristof of Keiser University, Port St. Lucie Police Department’s Assistant Chief Richard DelToro, St. Lucie Public Schools Board Members, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jon Prince, and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Helen Wild. This event was held at Keiser University to recognize graduating seniors for earning industry certifications, completing three Criminal Justice courses, and participating in Career and Technical student organizations. On Saturday May 4, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion held its annual Field Day for the school year 2018- 2019. Each Company competed in several athletic events including: relay race, Jag Ball, soccer, capture the guide-on, kickball and dodge ball. Cadets were excited to show their skills against the other Companies in friendly team games. Everyone kept the games fair but competitive.
