Palm Pointe Artists Use Digital Art to Honor Women

Middle school artists just finished a unit on digital art. Students were encouraged to pick a woman either real or fictional who has inspired them for Women’s History Month to digitally draw and paint.  Some artists chose to pick a family member, others a famous inspirational woman and others a fictional character that they idolize.   Students learned how to use graphic design tools like pens, brushes and layers to create their portraits.

Palm Pointe Artists Show Appreciation for Healthcare Workers

Palm Pointe middle school artists learned about geometry and helping the community! Discussions were had on how the pandemic has tremendously affected healthcare workers. Artists decided to create a sculpture of thanks for their nearby hospital, Cleveland Clinic at Tradition. They brainstormed and problem-solved on how to create a cube out of paper rectangles. Then, they constructed collectively a 3-dimensional heart made out of 115 cubes. Palm Pointe Artists Honor Holocaust Victims

During the recent Holocaust Education Week, middle school artists read and studied the book entitled, The Very Last Butterfly.  The book is a collection of artwork and poetry written by the children who were imprisoned in the Terezin concentration camp.  Our artists created butterflies in remembrance of the 1.5 million children’s lives who were lost during the Holocaust.

Palm Pointe Art Students Create Recycled Material Masterpiece

Palm Pointe Middle School art students worked hard to create a beautiful recycling art project.  It took two months and over 900 water bottles all from our school, that would have gone in the trash/landfill. This gorgeous piece of artwork will be displayed at the Oxbow Ecocenter in celebration of Earth Day at their festival on April 22nd. There are expected to be over 7,000 attendees!  Way to go Mrs. Wessel and the Palm Pointe artists for turning trash into treasure!

Palm Pointe and International Dot Day

Mrs. Schott’s 2nd through 5th grade Art classes created “Dots” based on Peter Renolds’ book “The Dot”.  September 15th was International Dot Day celebrating creativity, courage, and collaboration!  Students first listened to the story and were encouraged to express their creativity and individualism through creating a “Dot Masterpiece” of their own. 

Palm Pointe American Heart Association Slime Time

Palm Pointe students in grades K-5 raised money for the American Heart Association through the Jump Rope for Heart organization. Palm Pointe’s top fund-raisers got to slime their P.E coach Mr. Santoro. Our heart heroes raised $5,123.00 for the cause! Way to go Rockets!

Palm Pointe 8th Graders Explore “Starbooks”

Palm Pointe 8th-grade students in Mrs.Hairabedian’s research group had a Book Tasting. Students were given a selection of books to explore and rate. They picked their top choices and will be participating in a Book Club each week.

Palm Pointe 8th-Grade Rockets are Charting their Course

Palm Pointe’s 8th-grade students had a blast researching careers as part of St. Lucie Public Schools’ Classroom2Careers initiative. Students investigated job requirements such as education and prerequisite experience required, skill sets, potential colleges, and/or training programs. Palm Pointe 7th Graders Strolling Into Reading

7th grade ELA classes at Palm Pointe did a gallery walk to preview the novel they will be reading for quarter one. Students learned about the author of “The Fourteenth Goldfish” and information about the novel. They wrote down their “wonderings and noticing’s”.

Palm Pointe 5th Grade Super Science Heroes

This Friday, the Palm Pointe Fifth graders united in the name of science.  Led by superhero teachers and our special guest, Water Woman from the Port St. Lucie Utility Systems Education Program, we reviewed Heavy Hitter topics in preparation for the upcoming Statewide Science Assessments.

Palm Pointe 4th Graders Write in their E”LAB”Oration Stations

On Friday, March 29th, Palm Pointe fourth graders participated in an exciting day of writing e”lab” oration stations.  Students had an opportunity to travel to different stations and refine their writing through various mini-lessons and practice.  They were thrilled to show what they know after working hard all year on the writing process.  Towards the end of the day, students got to participate in a balloon drop that included balloons with positive messages to let them know they can do it.  Students will take their FSA Writing Assessment on Tuesday, April 2nd.  

Palm Pointe 3rd Graders Read Around the World

Palm Pointe 3rd grade students read around the world this week! During the week, 3rd grade classes participated in reading rotations to “travel” around the world and prepare for the upcoming progress monitoring assessment. They read about a different country in each classroom they visited and then made a fun craft or a snack from that country! 70+ students also participated in the Read Around the World bootcamp on Thursday morning where they read about 4 additional countries and completed a jigsaw activity and booklet!

Palm Pointe 3rd Graders “Meeting with the Mayor”

Palm Pointe 3rd grade students got a visit from Mayor Shannon Martin this week. Mayor Martin got to speak with them about things happening in our city, and things that she does as a Mayor, as well as answering some important questions that the students had for her.  

Palm Pointe 2nd Graders Learn about Butterflies

For the past 3 weeks, Palm Pointe second graders have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. Students researched and wrote about the 4 stages of a butterfly metamorphosis. Finally, students were elated to observe butterflies in their natural habitat. Our community field trip gave our kids the opportunity to witness the signs of spring through a scavenger hunt at the Butterfly Garden in Bedford Park.

Palm Pointe 2015 History Fair

Recently, Palm Pointe school finalists in the 2015 History Fair from grades six and eight celebrated their achievements in a special ceremony and exhibit gallery.  This year’s theme – Leadership and Legacy – challenged the students to research an individual in history who demonstrated extraordinary leadership in his/her respective field, and left a legacy which impacted future generations.  Students selected one of five project options to showcase their research and historical analysis.  Each finalist’s project was then judged using the National History Day criteria, and a maximum of three students were selected from each category to advance to the district competition.  The … Read More
