Port St. Lucie High cadets present Colors at awards ceremony

The cadets of the Jaguar Battalion from Port St. Lucie High School presented the Colors for the Senior Awards Ceremony recently at Indian River State College from three programs — Educational Talent Search, St. Lucie Upward Bound, and Upward Bound Math and science. The ceremony began with the presentation of the Colors, by the Jaguar Battalion, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC presented the colors for the Daughters of the American Revolution annual meeting recently. Cadet Captain Devynn Rhodes led the Color Guard presenting the U.S. flag, cadet Staff Sergeant Andrea Harrell presented the state flag, and cadet Corporal Lily Durst and cadet Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Mabry were the guards. Each of the students on the Color Guard were asked to tell the Daughters of the American Revolution what their roles in JROTC are and what their plans are after they graduate from high school. Port St. Lucie High cadets participate in special Northport K8 ceremony

The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Color Guard participated in the recent Northport K-8 School Black History Month ceremony. The Color Guard was led by Cadet Sergeant Major Robert Hopkins carrying the national flag. Cadet Second Lieutenant Cole Herndon carried the state flag, while cadet Second Lieutenant Taylor Chaney and Jaffrey Murankus posted as their guards. The school gave a wonderful welcome to the cadets, who gave a respectful presentation for the ceremony. Port St. Lucie High cadets participate in ceremony

The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion recently participated in a Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park. The cadets stood along the side of the park in formation to show respect and support for this ceremony. Several of the cadets, led by c/LTC Amanda Mabry, performed TAPS, which is a silent armed drill. Two cadets also participated in the presenting the colors. It was an honor for the Jaguar Battalion to participate in this year’s ceremony.

Port St. Lucie High cadets mourn loss of colleague

Port St. Lucie High School held a candlelight ceremony recently in honor of fellow student and ROTC cadet Hunter Henry, who tragically died earlier this month. Hundreds of Jaguars came together to share stories about Hunter and to help each other through this difficult time. Several of Hunter’s peers and friends said a few words about him to his family. It was a beautiful ceremony that touched everyone’s heart. The ceremony ended with Cole Herndon playing taps.

Port St. Lucie High cadets honor veterans with Honor Flight

Several Jaguar Battalion cadets conducted an expanded Color Guard for the Honor Flight ceremony, which honors the many veterans in the St. Lucie community. Participating in the Color Guard were cadet Colonel Diamond Salazar, cadet Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Jacobson, cadet Command Sergeant Major Mason Propst, cadet Captain Amanda Mabry, cadet First Lieutenant Andrew Miller, cadet Staff Sergeant Anthony Fusco, cadet Staff Sergeant Arlene Mabry, cadet Corporal Chaz Pollino, and cadet Private First Class Daulton Macklem. Port St. Lucie High cadets help with recent triathlon event

The cadets of Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion recently helped sponsors of a triathlon event at Club Med in Port St. Lucie. The cadets arrived at 5 AM to prepare for the day’s event, and helped guide and motivate the participants throughout the course. The triathlon was divided into two competitions, the Olympic and the Sprint. Thierry Rouillard, a Certified Race Director who organizes races all over the state of Florida, in particular was very impressed with the performance and professionalism demonstrated by the cadets. Port St. Lucie High cadets excel at regional meet

The Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Raider team recently competed in the District Raider meet. Forty-five teams with eight cadets per team from 16 schools competed in five physical and academic events. The raiders’ male A-Team placed second overall in the 3-mile run with a time of 19:26. Mixed team placed second overall in the cross country rescue course. c/CPT Devynn Rhodes placed third overall in the individual female P.T. test with a total of 51 push-ups and 86 sit-ups. The Port St.Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion held its annual Military Ball recently at the Port St. Lucie Community Center. The Military Ball is an event in which cadets participate in a formal dining-out, followed by an informal dance. To begin the events, cadets and their guests proceeded through a receiving line and were greeted by the cadet leadership, led by Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Mabry and Cadet Command Sergeant Major Byron Cruz. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion recently held its fourth Outstanding Cadet Board of the year. The board is a competition between cadets in which they answer many questions on various subjects ranging from the JROTC curriculum and uniform wear to drill and ceremonies. The top cadets from each company are selected compete with two winners overall — one winner from the junior cadets and one from the senior cadets. Boys’ and Girls’ State are summer leadership and citizenship programs for high school students between their junior and senior years. American Legion post 318 sponsored Posrt St. Lucie High School cadet First Sergeant Troy Conover and cadet Second Lieutenant Jeremy Dardon for Boys’ State, while Girls’ State Chairperson for American Legion Post 318 Ladies Auxiliary Ms. Rita Woodburn sponsored Port St. Lucie High School cadet Devynn Rhodes to participate in Girl’s State. Thanks to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8058, many students had the opportunity to enter a recent Voice of Democracy essay contest with cash prizes for the winners. Students who entered have a chance to win at various levels, excel to the national competition, and possibly win $30,000 along with an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. Port St. Lucie High cadet wins F.I.T. scholarship

Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar cadet First Lieutenant James Williams was recently awarded the “Cadet of The Year” honor from the Florida Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) Army ROTC, earning him a full scholarship to F.I.T. This was a very tough competition — the difference between first and second place was a mere five points. Williams will receive a three year Army ROTC scholarship, as well as an F.I.T.
