School psychologists recognized by school board

The St. Lucie County School Board recognized the week of November 11 – 15, 2013, as National School Psychology Week at their meeting November 12. The proclamation noted that school psychologists are trained to assess student and school-based barriers to learning, as well as individual strengths, utilize data-based decision-making, implement research-drive prevention and intervention strategies, evaluate outcomes and improve accountability. Palm Pointe K-8 returned from Spring Break with energy, excitement, and a strong commitment to showing up every day. Our Attendance Spirit Week was a huge success as students celebrated the importance of being present and engaged in learning. The week kicked off with “Spring Out of Bed and Into School” as students arrived in cozy pajamas, followed by “Save the Day by Being in Class” featuring heroic superhero attire. School Improvement Day at FPMSA

Ft. Pierce Magnet School of the Arts received many helping hands for a campus clean-up project on Friday (3/19) and Monday (3/21).  Superintendent E. Wayne Gent led the volunteers along with teams from Custodial Services, Grounds, Maintenance, and District Office.  Everyone rolled up their sleeves to pressure clean, paint, and landscape the historic school building and grounds.

School Grown Vegetables at Weatherbee

Ms. Whitney Lerman and her kindergarten students are teaming up with Mrs. Andrea Pierson, Cafeteria Manager, to grow and serve ‘school grown’ vegetables on the cafeteria line at Weatherbee.  The veggies shown will be transformed into coleslaw and salad and served in our cafeteria for lunch!

Employees of the St. Lucie County School District joined over 1,400 sites nationwide March 19, 2014, to recognize Kick Butts Day, a national day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco. Teachers, youth leaders and health advocates organized events around the country and the world to raise awareness of the problem of tobacco use, encourage youth to reject the tobacco industry’s deceptive marketing and stay tobacco-free, and urge elected officials to take action to protect kids from tobacco.
