Westwood’s Key Club Clean Up

The FPWA Key Club held its first clean up on the club’s adopted road this morning. Thank you to our students for giving up a Saturday morning to help Keep Ft. Pierce Beautiful! Also, thank you to the City of Fort Pierce for donating the safety vests. We appreciate your involvement with Key Club!

Westwood Holiday Gift

Students from Fort Pierce Westwood Marine and Oceanographic Academy had a holiday celebration before Winter Break where they shared various food and activities from all over the world. As part of the festivities, money was collected to aide the Hibiscus Children’s Center of the Treasure Coast. Westwood MOA students raised a total of $580, all of which was donated.

Westwood’s Criminal Justice Students Tour Emergency Operations Center

Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Criminal Justice students toured the St. Lucie County Emergency Operations Center. This tour was hosted by St. Lucie County officials and the St. Lucie County Human Resources Department. Students gained insightful information on potential careers and how to utilize their industry certification starting this summer! Students are excited and looking forward to the many opportunities right here in St. Lucie County. .

Westwood’s Agriscience Virtual Field Trip

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, W.E.S.T. Prep’s Agriscience program hosted a virtual field trip for Samuel S. Gaines Academy, Forest Grove Middle and Allapattah Flats K8 schools. Students explored the Agriscience career pathway with out leaving their classroom.

Westwood Wins State FFA Veterinary Assisting

Congratulations to the Fort Pierce Westwood Academy students who competed in the FFA Vet Assisting contest in Plant City! They placed FIRST in the state with Jayden Weil being the high individual of the whole contest. The team members (pictured) Briana Plaza, Samuel Rogers, Jayden Weil, and Ella Stark will be recognized during the State FFA Convention in June and then continue on to compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October! Woo-hoo! Great job, Panthers!

Westwood Teachers Present at FAST Conference

Westwood Academy STEAM Advocates, Mr. Wilks & Mr. McIntosh, presented at the FAST conference on STEAM! They focused on the addition of the arts into STEM. Their session was lively, engaging, and purposeful for all attendants. We are so proud of you!

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy STEAM Fair representatives showcased their projects at IRSC. These projects were judged at IRSC; we are excited for several students moving forward with their projects!

Westwood Students Get Ready for Semester Exams

Students work in teams to review for their semester exam in Physics Honors at MOA. Using white boards, they solve problems to earn points for their team and bonus points are awarded for the team who makes the basket from varying distances. Students in AICE US History review for semester exams using art. Students discuss the legacy of war and its impacts on modern day society. Pre-AICE Biology students prepared for exams by using Quizizz to show what they know – the leaderboard helps create friendly competition as it showcases how close they are to mastery.  

Westwood Students’ Field Trip to UESI

Our Panthers got the unique opportunity to tour Underwater Engineering Services, Inc. They witnessed a live diving demonstration in the hyperbaric tank. Students learned about marine safety and various equipment that is used for underwater engineering. Our students were fascinated to learn about various careers related to marine oceanography! Thank you to our community partners at UESI for this experience!

Westwood Students Complete a Field Study at Harbor Branch

Fort Pierce Westwood’s MOA Biology students partnered with Harbor Branch and applied Mark – Recapture methods to estimate field populations of snails. The snail populations were sampled to estimate abundance with the Lincoln – Petersen method by visiting the study site twice. The students got the opportunity to be involved in a field study which involved data analysis and graphing.

Westwood Students Collect Over 1,600 Food Items For Food Bank!

Students at Fort Pierce Westwood’s Marine and Oceanographic Academy are making a difference in the local community! The Leadership class at M.O.A. organized the food drive encouraging the campus to bring in food donations. The student body overwhelmingly responded with a grand total of 1,669 food items collected — all of which are being donated to the Treasure Coast Food Bank. Awesome job, Panthers, on the successful food drive!

Westwood Student Selected as Ambassador for UF’s Agriculture Education Institute

Junior Elizabeth Rufo was nominated by Agriculture teacher Mrs. Blankenbaker, to join the Agriculture Education Institute through the University of Florida. This summer, she signed a letter of intent to teach Agriculture Education at the state FFA Convention. Over the next year, she will be mentored by an Agriculture Education instructor and it will provide her an opportunity to have a direct link to UF and the Agriculture Education College after high school. She was also selected as an Ambassador for the program. We are so proud of you Elizabeth!

Westwood Student Athletes Read at CAST

Westwood football players spent the morning at Creative Arts Academy reading and helping kindergarteners and first graders with their sight words. Our student athletes showcased their dedication to our community through this service-learning opportunity while also sharing the Westwood legacy with future panthers. This event was extra special for several of our players because they went to CAST for elementary school. It was a sweet moment for them to return to their old classrooms to give back to where their success began.

Westwood Spirit Week

Westwood students enjoyed a great spirit week! Each day was designated with a different theme. We had Costume Day, Twin Day, Anything but a Backpack Day, Throwback Day, and Celebrity Day. Everyone’s outfits were creative and went above & beyond! Thank you to Student Government for organizing a fun week!  

Westwood Raiders Place 3rd in Regionals

On Saturday, October 29, the Westwood Army JROTC Raider Team competed in the Area 3 Regional Championship Meet at the Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation in Jupiter, FL. The Team competed against 8 other schools in 5 separate events: (2-Mile Team Run, 1-Mile Cross-Country Casualty Evacuation Run, Rope Bridge (build & crossing), 440lb Tire Flip, and 35lb Kettlebell Relays). Our Raider Team placed 3rd overall out of 9 schools, with multiple top 3 finishes and a combined 14 seconds (over three other events) separating them for the next spot up from 3rd or 4th. Westwood Raider Consistency

On October 29th, Fort Pierce Westwood hosted its Annual Raider Meet. This was the second competition of the year for Westwood’s Raider Team. Eight teams competed, each having sub-teams for a total of  fifteen teams. These teams represented area high schools ranging from Okeechobee to Santaluces. There were three categories, each one stacked with heavy competition. Westwood itself was in the mixed category, also the largest. The Westwood Raider team pushed themselves to compete with other schools. Westwood was able to secure two second place spots and showed great improvement over recent years.
