SLW Centennial AICE Marine Students Explore the Indian River Lagoon

Ms. Willems’ AICE Marine Science students participated in “A Day in the Life of the Indian River Lagoon,” an annual citizen science project where environmental partners, students, and teachers collaborate to simultaneously collect scientific data at sites along the 156 mile stretch of the lagoon. A great learning opportunity for the students.

On Friday, May 15th, secondary music students in St. Lucie Public Schools and their teachers played “Lean on Me” in their yards to honor all those who have sacrificed so much during this Covid-19 pandemic. It was a touching tribute and a wonderful way to connect virtually with one another! Great job everyone!    

SLPS Wears Blue for Autism Acceptance and Awareness Month

The Speech-Language Pathologists showed their support for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders by wearing blue for Autism Acceptance and Awareness Month. 1 in 36 children are diagnosed with ASD according to a 2020 report by the CDC.  Speech-language pathologists work with students with Autism to help improve their pragmatic language and functional communication skills.

SLPS Top Students Compete in the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge

Teams from five SLPS High Schools competed on Friday, January 28th in this year’s Commissioner’s Academic Challenge. The team from Treasure Coast High School earned the most points in the 2nd round academic challenge and were declared the winners! Questions covered a wide range of topics including Mathematics, Science, Literature, Music and Foreign Language. Cheers echoed across campuses today as three deserving teachers were named as finalists for St. Lucie Public Schools’ (SLPS) Teacher of the Year. Makeda-Ione Brome (Lincoln Park Academy), John J. SLPS Supports March of Dimes March for Babies

Students and teachers from St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) along with private pre-kindergarten partners rallied in the month of January to collect dimes in support of March of Dimes March for Babies. On Wednesday, students and teachers convened at Lawnwood Stadium to run the track in segments. Collectively, the segments represented the distance of the total number of dimes collected if they were to be placed side-by-side. 58,880 dimes were collected! In distance, that equates to approximately 2.5 miles; in dollars, that equates to $5,880.00.
