Mrs. Cothern’s second-grade class was proudly promoting Red Ribbon Week! Every year, from October 23-31, more than 80 million people – both kids and adults – show their support for a healthy, drug-free life by wearing or displaying the red ribbon. Red Ribbon Week is a great reminder of why living a drug-free life is important. It’s a chance for parents, teachers, and communities to unite and reinforce the drug-free messages they share with kids all year. The eight-day celebration is an annual way to show that we won’t accept drugs in our schools, workplaces, or communities.

  St. Lucie West K-8’s MySchool students in Mrs. Vargas’ Kindergarten class created their favorite book characters using a pumpkin and presented them to their classmates. They had to tell why their characters were their favorite and name at least three details about them. SUPER JAWESOME JOB SHARKS!

Last week at St. Lucie West K-8 School, Mrs. Goldberg’s MySchool Kindergarten students studied American symbols and their relationship to freedom. For content, they used their feet and hands to make bald eagles. They also created a directive drawing of the Liberty Bell. Great Job Baby Sharks!  

In Mrs. Quiles’ 3rd grade class, students transformed into “Math Doctors” to explore the distributive property through a fun and interactive activity. By “performing surgery” on numbers, they learned how to decompose multiplication facts into simpler parts to solve!    

A sweet and engaging math adventure with our Candy Corn Marshmallow activity! Ms. Quiles’s third graders explored geometric reasoning by using colorful candy corn and marshmallows to create points, lines, line segments, and rays. Through hands-on building and problem-solving, students strengthen their understanding of geometry in a fun, interactive way. Make learning math a treat!

Our third graders did an outstanding job with their annual Living Wax Museum. The creativity and research they put into their projects to embody Influential Americans was exceptional! Kindergarten, first and second-grade students cheered as the students made their way to the parent pick-up area. When they arrived, parents were able to drive through and cheer them on. Way to go 3rd Grade!

In Mrs. Quiles’s vibrant 3rd grade class, math came to life with a glow-tastic area and perimeter activity! Students lit up their learning with glow lights and highlighters as they tackled real-world problems involving composite figures. With the visual models and essential formulas, students illuminated their understanding of area and perimeter, making math both fun and memorable. What a colorful journey where creativity meets critical thinking!

Students in Ms. Dahm’s gifted 5th grade utilized the Thinking Classrooms framework to work through a performance task to help them understand algebraic reasoning. Way to get those brains working hard!  

Students in Mrs. D’Andrea’s Gifted class are focusing on Central Idea. To start their lesson, Mrs. D’Andrea had a bag of three items: a globe, a plane ticket, and the Statue of Liberty. The students guessed that it described a trip to New York City! Students took the opportunity to create a quick “bumper sticker” of a place they picked. St. Lucie West K-8 third graders enjoyed sweet learning! Students worked with a partner using 30 jellybeans to collect and organize data. They sorted the jellybeans by color, counted each group, and then represented their data in two different ways—a bar graph and a pictograph. This hands‑on activity helped students practice counting, comparing quantities, and understanding how data can be shown in multiple representations. In honor of Hispanic Hertiage Month, elementary art students in Ms. Nedrow’s class learned about Miami based Artist Romero Britto. Britto is a Brazilian artist, painter, and sculptor. He infused elements of cubism, pop art, serigraphy and graffiti. His patterns are filled with bold patterns that express hope, dreams and happiness! They chose from 3 different Britto templates and filled them with bright colors and fun patterns. Elementary also learned about texture by creating cute monsters using crayon rubbing techniques.

SLWK8 Entrepreneurs competed in the CTE Showcase on April 2, 2025, at the St. Lucie Public Schools District office. Students prepared business plans, PowerPoint presentations, posters, and a pitch for a panel of judges against other middle school students in the county.  Students from Ms. Tremblay and Mrs. Boham‘s classes polished their pitches to perfection to be ready for the showcase.  It was great to see them helping each other get their posters ready in the morning, encouraging each other, and cheering everyone on.  After the showcase, a student said she thought this helped her self-esteem, and another echoed that … Read More
