Teaming Up to Teach

SLW Centennial High School and Treasure Coast High School English and reading teachers teamed up for an Advanced Thinking Maps training focused on evidence-based writing. Teachers utilized scaffolded, structured maps to guide the argumentative writing process. The teachers and administrators present were inspired and well prepared to, in turn, inspire and prepare our SLPS students! It was an effective and instrumental talent development day!

On Monday, October 17, 2016, St. Lucie Public Schools will hold its 2nd Annual Lights On Afterschool event. All community members are invited to attend to help us celebrate this national event and learn more about programs, activities, and opportunities available for your child. Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families, and inspire learning. According to data from the Afterschool Alliance, 15.1 million children are without adult supervision in the afternoon hours.

C.A. Moore’s Safety Patrol

C. A. Moore Elementary School held a swearing in ceremony for the team of student leaders who were selected to be on the 2016-2017 Safety Patrol Battalion. Principal Hedeen welcomed parents and special guests Chief Deputy Garry Wilson of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Chief Kenny Norris of the Fort Pierce Police Department, and Chief Brian Reuther of St. Lucie Public Schools to the event to honor the fifth grade students for the important role they will fulfill this year on campus as they lead, model, and support school safety. Hispanic Heritage Month

In September 1968, Congress authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to proclaim National Hispanic Heritage Week. The observance was expanded in 1988 to a month-long celebration (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15). America celebrates the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean. President of the Classified Teachers Association/Classified Unit (CTA/CU) Retirees Chapter Ms. Barbara Kaste presented a plaque to the Board Members and Superintendent E. Wayne Gent to express appreciation for the support that has been given to the Chapter, to New Teacher Orientation, and to the New Teacher Supply Depot.  

Mr. Luke Hall – A Shining Star

Mr. Luke Hall was the recipient of a STAR Award at the September Board Meeting based upon the recommendation of one of his students’ parents who lauded his efforts to support her son as well as the other members of the positive band program.  Mr. Hall’s high expectations for success with built-in factors for a safe and respectful environment were key attributes highlighted for this exceptional educator’s recognition.

Mrs. Cary Schott enthusiastically shares her love of the arts and her artistic talents with others.  When asked if she and her students could provide art for District Office visitors and staff to appreciate, she readily provided three beautiful pieces to adorn the walls in the Community Room for all to enjoy. STAR Awards – Retired School Volunteer Program

STAR Recognition for Exceptional Service and Support to St. Lucie Elementary Principal Latricia Woulard commended members of the Retired School Volunteer Program for their mentor support at St. Lucie Elementary.  The dedicated team of individuals provided help and support to new teachers and retention efforts, beautification and establishment of a butterfly garden on campus, and fund raising efforts for supplies. Special recognition and thanks were given to the following at the September 13th Board Meeting: Barbara Kaste, Stephanie Sakowski, Arlene Hazelton, Ruthann Reuther, Marguerite Saady, Chuck Brothers, Vanessa Tillman, and Christine Rodic.
