St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) reached a positive agreement today with its Classroom Teachers Association (CTA) and Classified Unit (CU) partners. Superintendent E. Wayne Gent stated, “We value the committed educational professionals who dedicate themselves to teaching our students and accelerating their learning. We support them and are pleased to be in a position to enhance the compensation for the important work they do for each child, every day.” This benchmark agreement was reached in partnership with Union leadership. CTA/CU President Vicki Rodriguez said, “I am pleased that we have reached an agreement before the start of school. This is the first time in many years that we have been able to accomplish this, and it is the first step in our mutual commitment to work together as we support recruitment and retention of our employees.”
The value of compensation package is approximately $5,021,300.00. In addition to this, the package also includes the continued Board contribution of $750.00 to a Health Savings Account (HSA) for employees enrolled in the Blue Options Plan 5180/5181. This adds another $1,290,000.00 to the overall package bringing the total to an approximate $6,311,300.00. For teachers (CTA), this means an annual increase of approximately $1,600.00 to $1,700.00. CU members will each receive a step increase on the salary schedule and an additional $250.00. The agreement is retroactive to July 1, 2015.
CTA/CU members (classroom teachers and other instructional staff, clerical staff, paraprofessionals, and bus aides) can also look forward to the broadcast of an informational webinar designed to help clarify the highlights of the package and explain Pay for Performance.
