Last month, Manatee Academy K-8 hosted a vibrant and engaging Literacy Night, designed to promote a love of reading while providing valuable resources to students and their families. The event was filled with exciting activities that encouraged reading, learning, and family participation, all while fostering a sense of community. One of the highlights of the evening was the highly anticipated book BINGO. Students and parents joined in the excitement as they tried their luck at winning free books. A wide section was provided by the community and several vendors were present to support the event as well including round table, St. Lucie Library and Bookman!
A key focus of the night was supporting parents in their role as their children’s first teachers. The event featured an informative session on the UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Initiative), which provides strategies for parents to enhance their children’s literacy skills at home. The workshop was led by trained educators who explained simple yet effective techniques for helping children develop strong reading habits.
The school’s library was also transformed into a lively event to host the book fair. Tables were lined with a wide selection of books, from picture books for younger children to novels for older students. Families were encouraged to browse, discover new titles, and purchase books to take home. The book fair not only provided an opportunity for children to pick out books they were excited to read, but also supported the school library as well.
