Not all teenagers would be willing to wake up early on a Saturday morning, let alone volunteer their time to clean up a beach rather than enjoy the sun and sand. The teens of Fort Pierce Central High School’s National Honor Society, Gardening Club, and Key Club were joined by St. Lucie West Centennial’s Youth Advisory Council members for the 5th Annual Kimberly Pearson Memorial Beach Clean-Up.
The event was held at Pepper Park on March 2nd from 9 a.m. to noon. Over 100 volunteers, including students, staff, administrators, and friends cleaned the beach, park areas, lots, and walkways in honor of a teacher who loved learning, students, and the ocean. As we keep Ms. Pearson in our hearts year-round, we are reminded of her passion for our beautiful scenery in St. Lucie County. We meet once a year to reinvest and renew our dedication to keeping Ms. Pearson’s mission to a life-long love of our understanding and protecting our natural wonders.

Students get fueled up before setting out for a great day of service in honor of the beloved and dearly missed Ms. Kimberly Pearson, FPC Marine Science teacher.

Mr. Pearson, Kimberly’s father talks with Mr. Peter Miserocchi, National Honor Society sponsor while Gabriella, senior NHS member, enjoys refreshments and time with her friends.
NHS, Gardening Club, Key Club, and Key Club’s sponsor Mrs. Peschio, pose for a group photo before the work begins.

The volunteer clean-up crews are hard at work carrying out diligent efforts to replenish our beaches’ natural beauty.

Key Club and NHS members join forces to tackle and clear a huge, discarded beam.

FPC Gardening Club members and sponsor Mrs. Avra pause for a brief picture break.

Key Club members stop with a smile during the clean-up.

National Honor Society members catch their breath and take a break in between clean-up expeditions.
Thanks to Panera, Traditions location, for their End-of-Day “Dough-nations” providing the much-needed energy boost making the event a super success!
