Gold and Silver Volunteer School Awards were presented to schools by Martha Underwood, volunteer coordinator. These awards recognize exemplary programs that support community and parent involvement.
St. Lucie County’s Education Foundation awarded 33 grants to teachers throughout the district. Executive Director Thom Jones indicated that the grants represent a $50,000.00 investment in quality educational programs to benefit student achievement.
Mosaic Digital Academy presents their first Teacher of the Year Award to Mrs. Kahr. We are thrilled to have Carrie Kahr represent our staff as a trailblazer in our virtual instruction program here in St. Lucie County. Mrs. Kahr teaches secondary science offering hands-on lab exploration experiences for students in grades 4-12. Mrs. Kahr serves as our Science Fair Coordinator and recently hosted our annual science fair event with the theme, “The STEAM of Water Pollution.” Congratulations, Mrs. Kahr!

Students in Mrs. Warren’s Kindergarten classroom are learning about “People and Events of Now and Long Ago.” Students compared and contrasted what school was like long ago versus now. Then they had an opportunity to practice writing their name and drawing a picture with a quill feather and paint to replicate the tools used by students long ago.
The Thanksgiving Feast is an annual event sponsored by Fort Pierce Central High School JROTC battalion and the Fort Pierce Central Culinary Program students that allows the students to meet and have a meal with the residents of the Lake Forest Park senior living home. Ms. Kim Singley and Fairlawn Elementary Magnet School’s Student Council volunteered their time on Saturday to help The Treasure Coast Food Bank pack food for families to receive during the holidays. Ms. Singley who leads Fairlawn’s Student Council wanted students to understand where the food goes when families bring it to the school to donate it. Students were able to pack grace packs for students of St. Lucie County and they helped sort donations that have come in during this busy time. Third grade students in Mrs. Shukri’s class enjoyed working with Keiser University students who were previously in the military. The Keiser University students read a children’s book to the class that was created by a soldier. It explained why military parents may seem different when they get home to their families due to PTSD. They also explained their jobs and where they have traveled while serving in the military. Students worked with the Keiser students to make Christmas cards for the soldiers overseas for the upcoming holiday season.

The 5th graders at Rivers Edge Elementary were honored to have Cris Martinez of Channel 25 News Weather Team host his Weather School on Wednesday, December 3. He used our very own students to explain how a tornado works and what happens when a cold and warm front collide. Our 5th graders welcomed Mr. Martinez with a song they had written about hurricanes.

Students and their families who attended the annual Breakfast with Santa event enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast, face painting, shopping at the PTO Holiday Shoppe, and getting their picture taken with the jolly old elf himself!
On Saturday, December 5, the Jazz Band under the direction of Band Director Jason Hatfield from Palm Pointe Educational Research Center @ Tradition participated in All County Music’s Star Wars Day celebration in Tamarac, Florida. Northport Principal Glenn Rustay shook off his Santa suit one more time to bring joy and good wishes to the entire Northport community at the Annual Breakfast With Santa held recently in the school cafeteria. On a Saturday morning, Assistant Principal Lisa Cash and Assistant Principal Lorie Monroe suited up to play Mrs. Claus and an elf to bring joy to all as a pancake breakfast was served by Northport’s PTO. The SLWK-8 Jr. Thespian Troupe wowed the audience at their 4th annual Thespian Showcase performance on November 19th. In addition, they performed at the District 3 Junior Thespian Festival on December 5th and brought home 11 scores of EXCELLENT and 6 scores of SUPERIOR. The Sophomore Class at Fort Pierce Central sponsored a Fall Food Drive to benefit the Treasure Coast Food Bank on November 20-24. Freshmen class members collected the most with 127lbs of the 387lbs of food collected.
Lincoln Park Academy Jazz Ensemble Collaborates with Renowned Latin Percussion Artist Sammy Figueroa
The Lincoln Park Academy Jazz Ensemble collaborated with renowned Latin percussion artist and Grammy nominee Sammy Figueroa and his Sally’s Tomato ensemble at the Sunrise Theater Black Box. The students enjoyed an engaging workshop with Mr. Figueroa on Afro-Cuban stylistic techniques followed by the performance at the Black Box. Sponsored by Bluebird Educational Foundation, the event was an enormous success!
