Theatre Group Performs at Manatee Academy

Manatee Academy 4th and 5th grades were enraptured by the performance of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by The Riverside Children’s Theatre professional group this week. Students and teachers have been reading the Narnia books for the last month and thought this interactive interpretation was “Awesome!”

“Halloweengo” a Hit at REE!

REE hosted their annual Bingo for Books with a Halloween twist thrown in. Coupling it with a Title 1 presentation, the students then paraded by grade level across the stage in their costumes. Bingo then ensued with students winning a book every time they achieved BINGO! Our ever fabulous PTO handily decorated the cafeteria and gave out creepy treats! Everyone went home with a book and a smile!

Crime Prevention Expo

Fort Pierce Central High School’s Criminal Justice Academy hosted its annual Crime Prevention Day on Friday, October 30, 2015 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This expo-style event provided opportunities for students to learn about numerous programs, discuss the mission of each, and explore career opportunities with representatives from agencies including: Ft. “Respect Yourself, Be Drug Free” was the Red Ribbon Week theme this year. Students at Village Green Environmental Studies School participated in several anti-drug/anti bullying activities, some of which included: creating posters, signing pledges, and a presentation by Joe the Biker.

Office Depot Makes Donation

St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent E. Wayne Gent recently accepted a donation of 200 sackpacks containing essential school supplies from the Office Depot Business Solutions Division. The sackpacks will be distributed to deserving students within the school district. The donations were made as part of the Office Depot and Office Depot Foundation’s award-winning National Backpack Program, through which the company gives children important tools they need to succeed in school – and in life – every school year. Manatee Academy Students Visit Anne Frank Exhibit

Manatee Academy 8th grade students enjoyed lunch at a park after viewing an emotional Anne Frank exhibit sponsored by Temple Beth Am in Jupiter this week. The exhibit is part of a national tour from the Anne Frank Center, New York. Our students participated in a scavenger hunt by answering questions after reading the giant informational murals, pictures, and quotes from Anne and her family. Docents showed a 22 minute film, “The  Short Life of Anne Frank.”  Students were visibly moved by this documentary and accompanying exhibit.

Manatee Vet Prep Students Partner with Westwood’s Veterinary Assisting Academy

Manatee Academy Vet Prep eighth graders and several of their parents visited Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Veterinary Assisting Academy to tour the available programs offered through the Career and Technical Education Department. Middle school students studying animal science learned about the many benefits the attractor program has to offer. Seniors in the program guided them through several hands-on experiences that they could expect as students, such as proper dog restraints, dog grooming and the many college/career opportunities available through FFA. Northport Rallies For Fifth Annual “Unity Day!”

Every year for the last five years, Northport has united for a huge campaign to stamp out bullying. The students have listened to not only “Joe the Biker” speak, but dozens of other speakers whose message has been one of nonviolence, empowerment and anti-bullying. Students have made thousands of posters, worn orange for anti-bullying and red for drug awareness. At Tuesday evening’s Board Meeting, the Bluebird Education Foundation presented students with instruments to help them exercise their musical talents. The Foundation’s Program entitled “Donation of Musical Instruments Through Recycling In The Key of E” makes this gifting of instruments possible.

Building Tolerance Contest at Palm Pointe

October is Bully Prevention Month and Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition had some exciting things planned in order to continue to create a safe and caring school environment free from bullying and exclusion. One way to increase tolerance at the school was to have students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade create anti-bullying posters about Building Tolerance and students in grades six through eight write essays with the same topic. A Hero Gets a Home

Port Saint Lucie High School cadets were honored to provide a saber guard when Army Specialist Gonzalez and his family were awarded with their new home. Army Specialist Gonzalez, a Port Saint Lucie veteran, lost his sight and suffered severe brain injuries in an IED explosion in 2004. The home was designed for his loss of sight with handrails and textured floors. NASA visits Gaines Academy

On Friday, October 23rd, NASA Engineer George “Gabe” Gabrielle, came to Samuel Gaines Academy to speak with our students about space travel.  He taught Mr. Davino’s AVID classes about the NASA facilities, preparing them for their upcoming 8th grade field trip to Kennedy Space Center in November.  Mr. Gabrielle also had a chance to speak with the students in SGA’s 21st Century Program. Both groups enjoyed the presentation and had many questions for him about the wonders of space travel.
