Pierce), Comcast channel 19 (Port St. Lucie), Blue Stream channel 19, and ATT TV channel 99.  Furthermore, a link to the broadcasts will be found on the St. Lucie Public Schools webpage at www.stlucieschools.org. We are so proud to announce that CAST Kindergartner, Gia Grasso, has won the Sunrise Theatre Coloring Contest for the 5 & under category. Gia worked on this “extra project” while keeping up with her core classes online (including: Dance, Drama, Music, PE, and Visual Art). Congratulations Gia.

Flattening the emotional curve: Elasticity and Resiliency During COVID-19 was the theme of a webinar offered in late April. Recently, Mrs. Elizabet Flores participated in the webinar that helps with strategies and tools to identify those students that need motivation for distance learning and how to deal with the stressful situation of COVID-19. She came away from the webinar with excellent tools to share.

Miss Quinones, first grade teacher at WMP, was selected as the Texas Roadhouse Teacher of the Year based on submissions from her students! She won a great gift basket and a free entrée at the restaurant every month for a YEAR! Way to go Miss Q!

St. Lucie Public Schools Math Curriculum Specialist, Christina Worley was just awarded a Kenneth Kidd Mini-Grant from the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The grant funds projects that enhance teacher and student understanding of mathematics.  Ms. Worley’s grant proposal focused on teacher training in developing engaging ways for students to review math concepts. The funds will be used to purchase supplies for teachers to create “Escape Room” activities for students. Congratulations!  

On Friday, May 15th, secondary music students in St. Lucie Public Schools and their teachers played “Lean on Me” in their yards to honor all those who have sacrificed so much during this Covid-19 pandemic. It was a touching tribute and a wonderful way to connect virtually with one another! Great job everyone!

Ms. Swabon’s elementary visual art students at CAST have been submitting their art for various projects.  Some included here are: leaf rubbings, creating a “found object” color wheel, drawing and photography of everyday life and documentary photography.

As we are wrapping up a tumultuous yet extremely productive school year…we want to give a big SHOUT OUT to the students and parents who worked on their Young Authors books. At Northport, the learning never stops. We are a traditional school and we preserve our customs..no matter what! Your children are lucky to attend Northport because you can depend on our fortitude yearly. It is the parents and teachers that preserve our uniqueness. Creative Arts Academy, K-5 Drama teacher, Mary Roti has been working with her students as they create and perform virtually.  Third-grader, Alex Sosta, performed a duet scene with his brother, 6th grader, Jace Sosta. Alex created his superhero character through a variety of activities such as acting objectives, character creation, and performance. He collaborated with his brother who is a middle school Media Arts student. These scenes are included in the weekly announcements uploaded to CANVAS and YouTube.

Free “Grab and Go” Meals are available on Tuesday and Thursday from 11 am-1 pm. The multi-day meal packages contain 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches on Tuesday and 3 breakfasts and 3 lunches on Thursday. Teacher Janine Wiecks made a delivery to every student in her class recently. She was able to see almost the entire class. It was so hard to not give hugs and keep her social distance. Each goodie bag has a copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a personalized note; some Wonka bookmarks, a golden ticket, and scrumptious candies. AWESOME gestures and gifts Mrs. Wiecks.

Many teachers and staff members from Northport have made special home deliveries to students who are meeting or exceeding expectations for Distance Learning, but students are also being recognized for many other reasons.   A great day, a great week, a great hour, being kind or just going that extra mile to be a great kid deserves a celebration in Northport’s book.  The celebrations never stop for the Northport community.  The school has kept the ball rolling and the students and families are engaged now more than ever.  Keep up the awesome work!
