Westwood JROTC Volunteers at Local Race

Cadets from the Fort Pierce Westwood Army JROTC Program volunteered their time to assist with the operations of the Treasure Coast Half and International Triathlon event held at Jaycee Park in Fort Pierce. Our Cadets staffed the water and food stations for the athletes as well as assisted with the teardown of the site. Triathletes that participated in the race had to complete a 1.2-mile swim in the Indian River Lagoon, followed by a 56-mile bicycle ride along A1A, and then ending the race with a 13.1-mile (half marathon) run on A1A. Friendsgiving at Westwood

Students in AICE English II and Culinary Arts collaborated for a Friendsgiving luncheon. They wrote what Thanksgiving means to them, created a diverse menu then prepared the meal. Smiles and good food were shared by everyone!

TCHS AFJROTC Competes

Members of the Treasure Coast AFJROTC Color Guard, Drill, and Air Commando Teams recently competed at the Annual Sickles High School Drill Meet in Tampa. It was a very tough competition and the teams represented TCHS very well. The following awards were won: Air Commandos 3rd place Physical Fitness Team, Freshman Drill Team 3rd Place Regulation Drill, Regulation Drill Flight 3rd Place, Armed Squad Drill 2nd Place, Color Guard 2nd Place, and Freshman Drill Uniform Inspection 1st Place. TCHS AFJROTC’s own Cadet Kaylie Reichert was recognized as the top Female Physical Fitness competitor and was named “Iron Cadet.”

Westwood Spirit Week

Westwood students enjoyed a great spirit week! Each day was designated with a different theme. We had Costume Day, Twin Day, Anything but a Backpack Day, Throwback Day, and Celebrity Day. Everyone’s outfits were creative and went above & beyond! Thank you to Student Government for organizing a fun week!  

Palm Pointe Kindergarteners Receive the Gift of Reading

MIDFLORIDA Credit Union came to see Palm Pointe Kindergarteners last week. Through MIDFLORIDA’s Gift of Reading program, the Kindergarten students were gifted a copy of the book “What If, Pig?” and listened to the story read by a special guest reader. Thank you MIDFLORIDA for helping to develop our love of reading!

TCHS Receives Praise from Purple Heart Recipient

The Treasure Coast AFJROTC was recently recognized by Chief Thomas Mateo, SSgt, USMC (Retired) a six-time Purple Heart Recipient and President of the Treasure Coast Chapter of the Purple Heart Association, for the Honor Guard POW/MIA presentation at the recent DDS4Vets Gala. Chief Mateo, who is also a retired Police Chief from the local area, was at one time the youngest U.S. Military member in Vietnam. Students at Oak Hammock K8 Learn About Fire Safety for Community Helper Day

Firefighters Daniel Torres and Sam Saxton had a presentation with Kindergarten and First Grade Students to talk about the many jobs of a firefighter and how kids can practice fire safety. They showed students what firefighters wear, the tools they use, and the different types of trucks they operate. They also went over fire safety and how students can practice being safety smart at home such as creating a fire exit plan with families. Students were excited to receive their little red fireman hats during the presentation.  

Industrial Biotechnology Program Virtual Field Trip

SLPS middle school students attended a virtual field trip to Treasure Coast High School to visit the Industrial Biotechnology program.  This event was hosted by Mr. John Williams (Industrial Biotechnology educator) and his Biotechnology students, along with the district’s Career and Technical Education department.  Students touring this program were able to watch live lab demonstrations and learn about the Industrial Biotechnology career pathway.

Palm Pointe Patriots Win Congressional Art Contest

Congratulations to artists Amelia Sides and Paige Kelly from Palm Pointe Educational Research School for winning the Congressional Youth Art Contest for St. Lucie County. Artists had to depict what the word patriotism means to them. Amelia won first place in the competition for her watercolor artwork of the American flag and bald eagle. Paige was runner-up with her watercolor American flag. Amelia’s artwork will be displayed in Congressman Brian Mast’s Washington DC office.

TCHS Color Presents at Orlando Magic’s Hometown Heroes

Members of the Treasure Coast High School’s Varsity Color Guard were honored to be invited to present the colors at the Orlando Magic’s Hometown Heroes game on Friday, November 11, in honor of Veterans Day. The team, commanded by Cadet Major Rachel Lee, also included Cadet Lt Col Amanda Huntington, Cadet 1st Lt Jayden Beiter, and Cadet  Lt 1st Lt David Ritchie.

                                               Operation Osprey was founded in Jan. of 2014 by Mark Anthony Bozzo, a Cadet Col. at Treasure Coast High School JROTC. Westwood Cadets Participate in Veteran’s Day Celebration

Cadets from the Westwood Army JROTC Program participated in a Veteran’s Day Celebration and Charity Fundraiser at Dyer Chevrolet in Fort Pierce. The Color Guard presented the National and State Flags at the beginning of the event. Upon completion of the Color Guard, 3 of our Cadets: Ayden Gardner, Maalik Banks, and Malakii Wheeler participated in the “Operation Bedrock” 5k (3.1 Mile) charity ruck march, to raise money and awareness for Homeless Veterans. Palm Pointe 3rd grade students got a visit from Mayor Shannon Martin this week. Mayor Martin got to speak with them about things happening in our city, and things that she does as a Mayor, as well as answering some important questions that the students had for her.  

2022 SLPS College Fair Has a Robust Turnout

The 2022 SLPS College Fair was November 3, 2022, at the Havert L. Fenn Center. This was the first in-person college fair in over two years, and it did not disappoint. We had over 50 college, university, and military representatives in attendance as well as almost 1,000 SLPS students. The evening also included two information sessions for students and parents to attend: FAFSA 101 hosted by IRSC and Scholarships 101 hosted by SLPS. Referendum Renewal

An important Referendum Renewal is on the November ballot.  It provides a school resource officer on every campus to ensure our children’s safety, supports the recruitment and retention of high-quality teachers, expands mental health services for students and supports special programs such as art and music in our schools.   Early voting begins October 24th and runs through November 5th.  Election Day is November 8th.   For more information, please visit Referendum Information – St Lucie Public Schools.   

Celebrating the SLPS Schools of Excellence

Congratulations to our Schools of Excellence; Fairlawn Elementary School, Palm Pointe K-8 Educational Research School, and Mosaic Digital Academy! The State Board of Education designates a school as a School of Excellence if the school’s percentage of possible points earned in its school grade calculation is in the 80th percentile or higher for schools comprised of the same grade groupings (elementary, middle, high and combination) for at least two of the last three school years.
