Fort Pierce Central’s very own Makaria Sandlin has qualified to compete at the NSDA (National Speech and Debate Association) National Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona, June 11-16, 2023. A Night in Paris at SLWK8 School

Over 200 students and parents attended this year’s A Night in Paris child/family dance at St. Lucie West K-8 School. Students and their families danced the night away to DJ Louie’s tunes while enjoying French-inspired culinary treats. All proceeds went to support our Student Council. Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Celebrates Black History Month

During February, Westwood Academy’s tenth-grade World History students produced many original and creative works celebrating Black History Month. Students created collages, word art, essays, and in-class presentations of their favorite Black world figures, such as Olaudah Equiano, Nelson Mandela, and Bishop Desmond Tutu, and their favorite Black Americans, such as Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Stokely Carmichael, Kamala Harris, and Jesse Jackson. FPC Wins with Scholastic Arts & Writing Competition!

FPC 3D Arts 2023 marks the 100-Year Anniversary of Scholastic’s Art & Writing Competition. This prestigious contest has awarded artists and writers including Andy Warhol, Slyvia Plath, Cy Twombly, Ezra Jack Keats, Joyce Carol Coates, Stephen King, Donald Lipski, and Amanda Gorman. Congratulations to all the FPC Ceramics III and AP 3D students for their first-time participation. Senior Vanessa Niederhofer won a Silver Key award for her Ceramic Dragon Bowl.  Junior Mariah Roman won Honorable Mention for the Heirloom Recipe Box. Junior Chris Flacon-Paulin won Honorable Mention for the mixed-media Built-In artwork (image not shown).

4th Annual Kimberly Pearson Memorial Beach Clean-Up

Fort Pierce Central High School students along with students and employees from throughout the district met on another postcard-perfect morning at Pepper Park on Saturday, February 25th. This morning was going to be more than a beautiful beach day, it was the 4th Annual Kimberly Pearson Memorial Beach Clean-Up. TCHS AFJROTC Recognized as “Exceeds Standards” on Headquarters AFJROTC Inspection

The Air Force Junior ROTC instructors and cadets of Treasure Coast High School in Port St. Lucie, FL earned an overall unit assessment score of “Exceeds Standards”, the highest rating attainable, during their evaluation on 6-February 2023. Instructors were lauded for creating a dynamic and supportive learning environment coupled with excellent community outreach. The instructors provided outstanding leadership in administering the cadet-centered citizenship program. St. Lucie Public Schools at Chart Your Course!

St. Lucie Public Schools middle and high school students participated in the Chart Your Course, Marine and Maritime Career Expo hosted at the Fort Pierce Yacht Club.  Local marine businesses demonstrated equipment and spoke about skills needed in the field.  Students were able to plan for their future and make connections to local career opportunities in the marine industry!

Palm Pointe Races to the Fair

Palm Pointe artists in grades kindergarten through eighth created a “Race to Greatness” display for the St. Lucie County fair. The artwork displayed captures our Rockets’ race to success through reaching our goals in reading, writing, math, science, history, and the arts.  Palm Pointe’s booth can be seen at the fair from February 24th through March 5th. Please stop by the fair school building to vote for our Race to Greatness booth.  The school building is located to the west of the rides past the stage and food.  Go Rockets!

Highwaymen Week at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy

FPWA celebrates Highwaymen Week! One group of black painters completely revolutionized how art was bought and sold up and down the Treasure Coast; they are The Highwaymen. Throughout the week, students listened to several different speakers influenced by the Highwaymen. Our speakers included the director of the AE Backus Museum in Fort Pierce, Marshall Adams along with Kenny Holmes, a Gifford native, former NFL player, and Highwaymen collector. Jaguars Claim Victory Once Again in Dwyer!

On Saturday, February 2023, the Jaguar Battalion traveled to Dwyer High School. Our Female and Male Teams competed in an Unarmed/Armed Squad, Unarmed/Armed Platoon, Color Guard, and Solo/Duo Exhibition drill. PSL ended up placing 1st in both Male and Female Armed Platoon, 1st in Female Unarmed Platoon, 1st in Female Armed Squad, 1st in Female Solo Exhibition, 1st in Male Solo Exhibition, 2nd in Female Unarmed Squad, and 2nd in Male Unarmed Platoon. Overall, the Jaguar Battalion finished 1st once again.

TCHS Robotics Team Competes in VEX Competition

The Treasure Coast High School Robotics team, made up of members from the Robotics Club and AFJROTC Robotics Team, competed at Imokalee High School near Naples in a day-long VEX robotics competition along with more than 20 other robotics teams. Beyond science and engineering principles, VEX encourages creativity, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving among groups. The TCHS team designed and constructed a robot to accomplish prescribed competition tasks both in “student-driven” and autonomous modes.  The TCHS team made it to the event finals before being eliminated and learned a lot while also having a great experience.

SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Qualifies for Florida State (Area 7) Navy Drill Championships

The SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC competed in the Lake Mary “Ram Nation” Drill competition in Lake Mary, Florida, on Saturday, February 18th, 2023.  They earned seven trophies during the competition and qualified for the Area 7 State Drill Championships, which will be hosted by Riverview NAVY JROTC, held at Riverview High School on Saturday, March 4th, 2023. Fort Pierce Central’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) chapter celebrated Career & Technical Education (CTE) month and shared joy and smiles on Valentine’s day.  HOSA members along with their chapter advisor, Mrs. Lorraine Young, did a presentation and gave each resident flowers and gifts.  Thank you to our business partner, Lake Forest Park Assisted Living Facility, for their collaboration to make this event happen. Treasure Coast High School Cultural Garden

Treasure Coast High School Spanish classes of Mrs. Garcia, Mrs. Rivera, and Mrs. Gonzalez, in collaboration with the art teacher, Ms. Bass, and the science teacher, Mr. Lazar are making the Cultural Garden project a reality. The art students painted the flowerpots and the Spanish students planted the cultural flowers of the Hispanic countries.  

Port St. Lucie Jaguars Compete at SkillsUSA Culinary

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Student Attending Journalism Conference

Uriele Aristide, a junior, was invited and selected to represent Fort Pierce Westwood Academy to attend the Washington Journalism and Media Conference this summer. This amazing opportunity will be held at George Mason University, located just outside of Washington, D.C. She was selected because of her excellent academic record and sincere interest in journalism and the media.
