In early October, Lincoln Park Academy middle school art students participated in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest which is sponsored by Lions Clubs around the world. This art contest encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For more than 25 years, millions of children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest. The theme of the 2015-2016 Peace Poster Contest was “Share Peace.” Thirty-three students, ages 11, 12 or 13, were selected to showcase their work in Art Mundo, a local gallery/workshop located in beautiful downtown Fort Pierce, 111 Orange Avenue. The opening reception will be during Art Walk on December 9th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will run throughout the month of December. Please join us in celebrating the students’ hard work and achievements!
Additionally, several of Ms. Duran’s students will be honored for their work at the Lion’s Club’s December 3rd meeting at 2nd Street Bistro. Diego Luna won 1st Place and will be the LPA candidate for the Lion’s International Peace Poster Contest at the District level. Our local Lions Club Sponsor, Crystal Samuel stated, “The melting of the national flags to form the candle and then the overwhelming candlelight spoke volumes about what countries can do to ‘share peace’ if we all come together! It is brilliant! It stood out immediately from the rest.” Christen McCann and Samira Bowman were awarded second and third place. The Lion’s Club will honor each winner with a certificate, ribbon, and small cash award and give each of them a chance to briefly explain the creative process behind their art piece.
