St. Lucie Public Schools Delays Start of School Year

St. Lucie Public Schools is delaying the start of the school year by two weeks. The first day of school for students will be on August 24, 2020. Superintendent E. Wayne Gent commented, “The additional two weeks gives time for the conditions in the county to improve and additional time for staff to finalize preparations for the school year. Youth Volunteer – Alexis Wilson – Port St. Lucie High School Alexis enjoys giving back to people in the form of volunteering.  She accumulated approximately 131 community service hours within her high school JROTC program. Thirteen St. Lucie Public Schools students proudly represented our district at Florida History Day in Tallahassee, competing alongside students from across the state in an academically rigorous showcase of historical thinking. This year’s event featured 836 student projects across five categories: Exhibit, Documentary, Website, Performance, and Historical Paper. This year’s National History Day theme, Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History, challenged students to explore moments of transformation and response across time. St. Lucie Public Schools middle and high school students participated in the Chart Your Course, Marine and Maritime Career Expo hosted at the Fort Pierce Yacht Club.  Local marine businesses demonstrated equipment and spoke about skills needed in the field.  Students were able to plan for their future and make connections to local career opportunities in the marine industry!
