The Speakers Bureau Special Guest Speakers at Ft. Pierce Westwood High School this month were Mr. Randy Roundtree, Mr. Darcy McFolley, Mr. Thernell Mills, and Mrs. Shaniek Maynard.
 
All the speakers expressed to the students the importance of making the right choices as they journey through life. The central theme that was expressed by all the speakers was, “It’s okay to be different and not follow the crowd.”

FPWHS Students Begin “START with Hello” Initiative

The Key Club, Student Government, and Senior Class Officers kicked off the “START with Hello” initiative to address social isolation. Their goal is to help create a school where everyone feels connected and included.

Students wore identifying t-shirts and gave bracelets to those with whom they interacted.

FPWHS Students Visit St. Lucie County Emergency Operation Center

Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Criminal Justice students toured the St. Lucie County Emergency Operation center. This tour was hosted by St. Lucie County Officials and the Human Resources Department. Students gained insight on potential careers and how to utilize their industry certification starting this summer! Students were excited and look forward to the many opportunities right here in St. Lucie County.

FPWHS Agriscience Hosts Virtual Field Trip

Fort Pierce Westwood High School agriscience students and their instructor Jenna Blankenbaker hosted a virtual field trip for middle schools.  Using the virtual meeting platform Skype, classrooms from Northport K-8, Manatee K-8, and Allapattah Flats K-8 connected with the Westwood FFA Officers to see animals, technology, tools, and highlights of the program.

Frances K. Sweet First Graders Make Butter

Students from Mrs. Cindy Langel’s 1st grade class are comparing life now with life in the past.  After learning about how people in the past prepared food, the students used heavy whipping cream to create homemade butter. Frances K. Sweet Fourth Grader Wins the Race for St. Jude

Frances K. Sweet staff held their annual Sunrise Stampede 5K/Kid Fun Run in beautiful Fort Pierce on February 27th.  Dorian Newbern was thrilled to award the first place overall prize to fourth grader Raymond Coburn.  He completed the course, which included running over South Beach Bridge twice, in 24 minutes and 17 seconds.  All proceeds will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Varsity cheerleaders from Lincoln Park Academy hosted cheer camp at Frances K. Sweet Elementary recently. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade had the opportunity to learn cheers, chants, and enjoy a dance. The students then performed for a packed crowd at an LPA’s boys’ basketball game.

Frances K. Sweet celebrated the last day before the Thanksgiving holiday by having their monthly PBIS event. Ms. Marla Liberatore’s 3rd grade class brought in their favorite games to play with their friends. Students enjoyed playing board games like Monopoly, Sorry, and Hedbanz, and card games like UNO and Crazy Eights. Everyone enjoyed spending their Starbucks to play with their friends at this event. Frances K. Sweet Hits Big in the Stock Market Challenge

Students in the fourth and fifth grade Challenge Program at Frances K. Sweet participated in the Stock Market Challenge sponsored by the Florida Council on Economic Education. Teams were competing to win first, second, or third place for the Elementary Division in our region.

Members of the first place team (Josiah Fullwood, Yazmin Sosa, and Carmela Bustamante) each earned a $50.00 Papa John’s gift card and shared a $100.00 cash prize.
