Fairlawn is participating in this year’s annual Empty Bowl Project. Thirty students in Mr. Gelardo’s art class will be creating clay pottery bowls for the event to be held on Saturday, March 12th, at the Ft. Pierce Farmers’ Market. Kindergartners from Fairlawn Elementary recently experienced Colombian culture by watching a Colombian dance company preform many traditional dance from Columbia at the Sunrise Theater in Fort Pierce. The students were mesmerized by the music and the brightness of the costumes. It was truly a wonderful experience for these young students.
Kindergarten students at Fairlawn Elementary School celebrated the 100th day of school by spending 100 minutes outside. Students completed centers which included finding 100 pennies, jumping rope 100 times, and writing their numbers to 100 by 10s with sidewalk chalk.
Fairlawn Elementary School fifth grade teacher Shirley Helton learned February 4, 2014, she has been named the 2014 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) national Citizenship Teacher of the Year. Helton was awarded the state honor in January at the organization’s state conference in Orlando. Helton expects formal recognition from the organization later in February.
