The Student Assignment Office shifted its location to the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex on Kirby Loop Road in Ft. Pierce from August 1 – August 13.  The purpose of the shift was to provide better customer service for parents and guardian registering their children for school.

Completed applications may also be dropped off at any of our local schools. Applications dropped off at a school will be forwarded to Student Assignment for processing.

From August 1 to August 13, the Student Assignment office will temporarily operate from the Treasure Coast Public Safety Complex in Fort Pierce to support the increased back-to-school needs of parents, students, and community members.  Hours of operation are from 8 AM to 4 PM.  This is an important shift at this exciting and busy time of year to accommodate our customers and their parking needs.

STUDENT CHANGE-MAKERS PRESENT IDEAS IN PROJECT CITIZEN SHOWCASE

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL – St. Lucie Public Schools seventh graders don’t just talk about perceived problems in the community, they seek solutions and find ways to put their plans into action in this year’s Project Citizen Showcase.

 

Distinguished judges from area municipalities, research centers, and community organizations will speak to students about their projects and discern award status.  The event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 14 at IRSC’s Kight Center on the Fort Pierce campus from 8:45 AM to 12:30 PM.

 

Kate Ems, coordinator for this event, explains that seventh grade students work to identify a problem in their community, research public policy, contemplate solutions to the problem, and create an action plan.  She said, “This is an outstanding opportunity for students to learn to work collaboratively and learn about government through a new lens.  It gives them great perspective on how they can be contributing members of society and change-makers.”

 

The top three projects will be placed on display in the State Capitol Building with other seventh grade projects from across Florida to be viewed by State Representatives.  Of these projects, a select number will then compete for state-level accolades.

St. Lucie Public Schools Child Nutrition Services Department would like to congratulate Brandon Parks and Shannon Sears of Fort Pierce Central High School’s Culinary Program for winning the first Student Culinary Cook-Off. Their entree, Boom Boom Chicken Bake, will be featured on the 2018-2019 school lunch menu.

The purpose of the event was for student chefs to create enticing entrees for the School Meals Program following the USDA guidelines for the National School Lunch Program.

The middle school culinary arts program provided Smart Snack approved treats. Ms. Tremblay’s Culinary students (Meghan and Samantha Cooper-De Quesada) are shown below at Fort Pierce Central High School distributing their healthy frozen treats: Blue-Dillys and Straw-Dillys.

FORT PIERCE, FL – St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) Child Nutrition Services Department in collaboration with the High School Culinary Arts Program will host the premier Student Chef Cook-Off at Fort Pierce Central High School Cafeteria on April 17, 2018 from 4-6 pm. The Tasting and Awards portion begins at 5:30 pm.

 

The purpose of the event is for SLPS student chefs to create enticing entrees for the School Meals Program following the USDA guidelines for the National School Lunch Program. The winning entrée will be featured on the 2018-2019 High School Lunch Menu.  The Middle School Culinary Arts Program will provide Smart Snack approved treats.

Student Chefs Delight Attendees

Northport K8 and Port St. Lucie High School Culinary Teams delivered up gourmet tastes that delighted those who attended the Taste of St. Lucie Big Brothers Big Sisters event. Northport’s mini pineapple upside down cakes disappeared as fast as the Port St. Lucie High School’s Crawfish Bisque and Boom-Boom Wontons. Our student chefs were outstanding!

To save money and printing resources, the annual St. Lucie School Board Student Code of Conduct booklet, which outlines expectations and consequences for students and parents, will be available electronically on the district website. An electronic copy of the Code can be located online at http://www.stlucie.k12.fl.us/pdf/codeofconduct.pdf. If parents require a paper copy of the Code, they can indicate in the online form, sign and return to the district office, and one will be provided to their child. Paper copies are also available upon request at the child’s school and at the District Administration Office located at 4204 Okeechobee Road, Ft. Pierce, Florida. District Administrative Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This Code has been adopted to help students gain the greatest possible benefit from his/her school experience. Parents/guardians are responsible for the actions of their children and should be involved in the education of their children. Parents will be notified at school open house events, as well as via email notices and automated telephone calls.

Mrs. Lankow’s wonderful Mosaic Digital Academy elementary students honored Earth Day this past week!  After meeting virtually to discuss ideas and brainstorming, students created shared slides for classmates to collaborate on ideas to save our planet Earth! Fifth grader Brandon Roth from Mariposa Elementary School was recognized during the December Board meeting for his courageous actions during a life-threatening situation.

This summer, Brandon was riding his skateboard when he discovered a neighbor in distress lying in her doorway. He ran to her aid and flagged down a passing car to call 911. He continued to wait with her until the rescue trucks and firefighters arrived.

His quick thinking and immediate action averted a potentially tragic outcome.  The School District  celebrates his quick and responsible thinking.

Student-led conferences are a success at Windmill Point

Student-led conferences are family discussions where the student leads a discussion of his/her work. In this format, the teacher becomes the facilitator while students lead their families in conversations that require them to reflect on and evaluate their work. Students in first through fifth grades recently invited their parents in to share with them their academic progress from the first nine weeks.
