Let’s Get Down to the Nuts and Bolts of St. Lucie Public Schools District Office Construction…

Let’s Get Down to the Nuts and Bolts of St. Lucie Public Schools District Office Construction…

Myth: Money is diverted from students and teachers to pay for the costs of the new District Office.

Truth: Not one penny of the cost of the new District Office is coming out of money available for students, teacher/employee salaries, classroom supplies, resources, or programs.

Money for the new District Office comes from the sale of the old District Office at the Orange Blossom Business Center, insurance reimbursements, and a portion of sales tax receipts that can only be used for projects like the new District Office.

Myth: Other construction projects in the District’s five-year plan are bumped or delayed in order to pay for the new District Office.

Truth: Not one project has been bumped or is delayed because of the construction of the new District Office. To date, projects completed or underway include, but are not limited to, security enhancements; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) replacement; gym floor maintenance; exterior waterproofing and painting; renovations; and roofing projects.

Child Nutrition Services Farm to School Program

Child Nutrition Services Farm to School Program

Child Nutrition Services is proud to announce for the 2017-2018 school year we offered the students of St. Lucie Public Schools over 219,000 pounds of Florida grown produce, over 53,000 pounds of Florida beef, and over 6,400,000 half pints of milk on school serving lines as part of the Farm to School Program.

As we begin the fifth year of the Farm to School Program we are increasing the amount of Florida grown produce to twenty items that of our original seven when the program started in 2015. Child Nutrition Services is excited to continue partnerships with our vendors ensuring fresh Florida grown produce is delivered to our schools within days of harvest.

We would like to thank our partners Localecopia, Miami Beef, Dean Foods, and Treasure Coast Food Bank, for their continued support making Child Nutrition Services Farm to School Program a success for the students of St. Lucie Public Schools during the Florida growing season, October through May.

Tuition Assistance

Tuition Assistance

Indian River State College (IRSC) has a long-standing collaboration with St. Lucie County School District through which school district employees are given tuition assistance for Associate Degree level courses.  The tuition voucher allows employees to only pay for the first credit of each three-credit course & IRSC provides a tuition scholarship for the other two credits.

IRSC has established a defined scholarship allocation for the school district for Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Summer 2019 and has authorized the district to begin issuing vouchers per the normal process, effective now.  The school district is responsible for authorizing our employees to “draw against” this allocation through the issuance of tuition vouchers.  Employees then take the tuition vouchers to IRSC cashiers along with the portion of the tuition due from the employee.

In order to be issued a tuition voucher, you must bring a copy of your registration form to the School Board Human Resources Office.  Tuition vouchers are available for full-time employees.  Please do not pay for your course(s) prior to receiving your tuition voucher from the school district.

Please note that if your student ID number does not print on your registration, you will need to provide the number to the Human Resources Department when you receive the tuition voucher.

Office hours for the Human Resources Department:

Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

TCHS Air Force JROTC Opportunities

TCHS Air Force JROTC Opportunities

The Air Force JROTC (AFJROTC ) at Treasure Coast HS recently held a Basic Training week for new Cadets.  The week focused on basic training including teamwork, drill, and marksmanship activities.

Treasure Coast High School is excited to announce the arrival of Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, Colonel James Golden.  He arrives with the extensive aviation experience and education required to deliver the school’s Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) dual-enrollment classes. Col Golden will be teaching the ERAU classes where cadets will not only receive college credit from an esteemed university, but also have an opportunity to take a certification test to fly Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)…also called “drones.”

Col Golden says, “With this certification a cadet can get a job operating drones in an expanding market of opportunities for UAS operators.” These two new opportunities for cadets are awesome. In addition to these, the Air Force JROTC is doing their part to address the country’s pilot shortage.  “America is short pilots, civilian and military”, said MSgt Frazier.  Former Cadet Jesus Paz is currently at ERAU receiving his Private Pilot’s License.  AFJROTC is paying over $35,000 for his training through the AFJROTC Flight Academy Private Pilot’s License Scholarship. This is a very exciting opportunity for any AFJROTC cadet to earn their private pilot’s license, and potentially have their entire bachelor’s degree paid for through further scholarships!  It is an exciting time to be an Air Force JROTC Cadet!

For more information, contact MSgt Frazier at 807-4516.
