Allapattah Flats FFA Accomplishments

Allapattah Flats FFA Accomplishments

Allapattah Flats K-8 Agriculture Program and FFA Chapter are new to the district and have worked hard to make a name for themselves this first year. Below are two big accomplishments the FFA Chapter made this year during the midst of Covid-19. The following contests were coached by the Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor Kristen Newell.

On Wednesday, May 20th, three FFA members from the Allapattah Flats FFA Chapter competed in the Virtual Vegetable Evaluation contest. These students had to identify vegetables, insects, and weeds from pictures they were given on the exam. The team placed 3rd in the state and Elizabeth Rufo placed “high individual” for the contest. These students worked very hard and we are beyond proud of them. The team consisted of Elizabeth Rufo, Laurence Blankenbaker, and Jaden Pizzarro.

On Thursday, May 21st, four FFA Members from the Allapattah Flats FFA Chapter competed in the Virtual Meat Evaluation contest. The team, which consisted of Elizabeth Rufo, Laurence Blankenbaker, Jaden Pizzarro, and Sebastian Bush, placed 8th in the state. For this contest, they were required to identify various cuts of meat that are bought in a store, place cuts of meat from best to worst according to how much edible meat was on the plate, complete a written exam, and identify parts of a beef and pork carcass based on questions asked. These students worked hard, and we are very proud of their accomplishments this year.

Generosity and Love Provides Grace Packs to Southport Middle School Families

Generosity and Love Provides Grace Packs to Southport Middle School Families

Southport Middle School would like to express their gratitude to the many generous residents of Ballentrae, in Port St. Lucie, for their continued support of our Grace Packs program. A huge thank you to Jack Jennings, from Ballentrae, who spearheaded the donation drive. Because of their support to our Grace Packs program, all our Grace Packs families will be provided with healthy food during this difficult time.
We would also like to extend our appreciation to the numerous teachers and volunteers who generously donated groceries and/or money, organized, adopted, and/or delivered Grace Packs to our Southport families these past few weeks. With the overwhelming support of our faculty and staff, each team was able to provide food, as well as gift cards for the students from their team. Along with the packages, everyone was able to show our students how much we missed, loved, and cared for them. The families were extremely grateful and greeted us with a happy heart and spirit of gratitude. Together we provide more than food. At Southport we provide whatever it takes!

Teachers Become Dell Certified Educators

Teachers Become Dell Certified Educators

Our latest Dell Certified Educators worked with experienced Dell EMC consultants and SLPS district leaders to integrate best practices in the application of technology to their instruction, curriculum, and assessment. On their path to becoming Certified Educators, each developed a personal goal to facilitate learning in a technology-rich, student-centered environment. Their participation in whole group training and individual technology coaching sessions allowed them to demonstrate their increased skill levels with the application of technology. As the third cohort of the Leaders of Innovative Technology (LIT) in SLPS. These teachers continue to share their knowledge with others at their school sites to enhance the integration of technology into our instruction. Congratulations!

Flattening the emotional curve: Elasticity and Resiliency During COVID-19 was the theme of a webinar offered in late April. Recently, Mrs. Elizabet Flores participated in the webinar that helps with strategies and tools to identify those students that need motivation for distance learning and how to deal with the stressful situation of COVID-19. She came away from the webinar with excellent tools to share.

On Friday, May 15th, secondary music students in St. Lucie Public Schools and their teachers played “Lean on Me” in their yards to honor all those who have sacrificed so much during this Covid-19 pandemic. It was a touching tribute and a wonderful way to connect virtually with one another! Great job everyone!
