At Mariposa Elementary, Mrs. Linda Auciello’s 1st grade students Abigail Negron, Sophia Manson and Rashard Alston are busy working on their “listen to read” reading center. Reading center rotations are practiced to ensure students stay engaged and gain a variety of different learning opportunities within their classroom.

Baptiste-Harris Receives John Morton Excellence in Teaching of Economics Award

Jacqueline Baptiste-Harris, a first grade teacher at Village Green Environmental Studies School, is making a difference that “exemplifies the importance of economic and financial education critical to students’ future success,” according to the Council for Economic Education. This accolade was paired with the announcement that she is a recipient of the John Morton Excellence in Teaching of Economics Award at the elementary school level.

 

Principal Terry Davis affirmed the Council’s nomination.  “Mrs. Baptiste-Harris is an outstanding educator who pours her creative talents into her lessons to help her students achieve their personal best,” said Davis.

 

As a recipient of this prestigious award, Baptiste-Harris will attend the 56th Annual Financial Literacy and Economic Education Conference and Awards event on October 6th and 7th in Brooklyn, New York.   She will also have the opportunity to present best practices from her classroom to colleagues at the annual conference and participate in a Teachers’ Roundtable session.
