Bayshore Donates to Toys for Tots

Bayshore Elementary School students and staff members participated in a toy drive for Toys for Tots sponsored by the United States Marine Corps.  Second Grade Teacher Nancy Fallon coordinated the event and was excited to have Bayshore Elementary as a designated drop-off location.  All donated toys will go to local families in need.  Thank you for to our students and staff for your donations.  Pictured, from left to right: Mrs. Silas (Bayshore Assistant Principal), Mrs. Reid (Bayshore Principal) and Mrs. Fallon.

Bayshore Celebrates Chimpmas

Save the Chimps, the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary, asked for assistance during the holiday season creating safe decorations to be used for their Chimpmas Celebration.  Bayshore students donated recycled boxes and created paper chains that will be part of the chimpanzees celebration.  Pictured: Mrs. Reid, Bayshore Elementary School principal, donating the items to Save the Chimps representative.

Westwood Cadets Achieve!

Congratulations to the Ft. Pierce Westwood HS Teams of Cadets who competed in the Junior Leadership and Academic Bowls. The Academic team consisted of Cadets Andrews, Loschin, Soto, Flores, and the alternative cadet Rigsby. The Leadership team consisted of Cadets Payen, Egan, Lovell, Ocampo, Hartley, and Reese. Out of the 1,308 teams that participated across America to include Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Guam, and DOD Schools across the world; they’ve earned the bragging rights to say both teams will be moving on to Level 2.  The next level of the competition will be held February 1-15.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY -State Representative Larry Lee was present at Tuesday night’s St. Lucie Public Schools Board meeting to accept an original artistic rendering from Palm Pointe seventh grader Kimberly Quigley. Quigley’s watercolor entitled “An Eye On the Future” will travel with Representative Lee to Tallahassee where it will be displayed and become part of the Art in the Capitol exhibit.

Art in the Capitol is the result of a bill designed to bring attention to the arts in education.  Annually, middle school art students submit art for selection at the District level, and winning entries are displayed in the Capitol during the regular legislative session.

St. Lucie Public Schools appreciates the many contributions to the Art in the Capitol contest. Special congratulations are extended to Mariana Solanilla and Hanna Bono both from West Gate K-8 whose artwork received second and third place recognition respectively in the local Art in the Capitol competition.
