Friends and Trustees of the Rupert J. Smith Law Library Celebrate Law Day 2016

The 2016 Law Day Art Contest was open to all St. Lucie County students. The theme, Miranda: More than Words,  encouraged students to explore the protections afforded to all by the U.S. Constitution, learn how these rights are protected by the courts, and determine why they are essential to our liberty. This commemorated the 50th anniversary of the case, Miranda vs. Arizona.

Students discussed the Supreme Court case and the importance of the Miranda Warning. They experimented with medium and worked with sketches to illustrate their interpretation of the Miranda Warning.

The awards for the 2016 Law Day Contest were presented to the winners on May 2nd.  Mr. E. Wayne Gent, superintendent of St Lucie Public Schools, presented the awards and prize money to the winning students. First place was awarded to Lincoln Park Academy senior Stephanie Collazos who received a $500.00 cash prize. Breyale Jenkins, also a Lincoln Park senior, won second place and a $300.00 cash prize. All student entries showed tremendous thought, creativity, and effort.

Thank you to the Friends and Trustees of the Rupert J. Smith Law Library for Celebrating Law Day.
