Treasure Coast High School Student Leaders Participate in Penny’s Band Camp

Treasure Coast Titans marched into this summer’s Penny’s Band Camp with a strong student leadership team. The long-standing annual camp, held at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, was host to numerous bands seeking to hone leadership skills, refine fundamentals, and enhance specialized techniques.

During the four-day camp experience, students studied with recognized music educators and professionals from the southeastern United States. They learned from Florida Bandmasters’ Association Adjudicators and collegiate band directors. Students received group as well as one-on-one instruction in leadership, colorguard techniques, drum major conducting, and drumline techniques.

Guard Captains Alyssa Aultman and Samantha Ferrara earned superior ratings on their evaluations at the end of camp. Likewise, Drum Majors Aishani Kalluri and Andres Gonzalez earned superior ratings on their evaluations at the end of camp. The mighty Titans’ Second Lieutenant Bran Kiernan earned first place for the marching routine he created, and Band Captain Zoe Horne won the silver for most outstanding female leadership. First Lieutenants Alvino DiCarlo and Jordan Ragland both earned an award for outstanding leader, and Drum Captain Brent McFarland earned the outstanding percussion award. Guard Captain Alyssa Aultman also earned the outstanding camper award for colorguard, and wrapping up the Titan accolades was First Lieutenant Alvino DiCarlo who earned outstanding leadership camper for the second day of the camp.

As a team, the Titan band leaders also made their mark on the event. The camp spirit stick was bestowed upon the team two out of the four days of the camp. This award is noted for recognizing the school student leadership team with the most school spirit and pride. Together, the student leadership team earned the 2015 Penny’s Award which recognizes the overall outstanding school for the entire leadership camp. This award recognizes the school with the most participation, good citizenship, great leaders, and most spirit at the camp.

The Treasure Coast High School Band is beginning its 10th year and boasts a 174 member marching band, three full concert bands, a jazz band, percussion ensembles, and an 18 member colorguard. In addition, the Titans have an active parent organization that is logging several thousand volunteer hours each year.
