Fifth Grade students in Ms. Broderick’s class explored various applications through Zspace in our Science Lab. They raised questions, analyzed, and deepened their knowledge about the solar system and the sun! Zspace technology encourages and inspires students to interact with the curriculum and to experiment through augmented and virtual reality.  

The PBIS Committee hosted a fabulous Fall Festival for students across campus. Students enjoyed games, crafts, delicious snacks, and a chance to spin the Wheel of Fortune!

St. Lucie West K-8 students and teachers participated in a vocabulary parade!  Students chose a vocabulary word and dressed up to represent the word. Parents drove through the parent pick-up zone to see students in the parade. Way to go Sharks!  

The mission of the US Presidential Scholars Nomination program, established in 1964, is to recognize and honor superior high school seniors in one of two categories: 1) Academic 2) Career and Technical Education (CTE). Lakewood Park Elementary held its Third Annual Vocabulary parade on Wednesday, October 27th. Students and teachers dressed as a variety of words from math and reading terms to science and social studies vocabulary words. All participants paraded during lunchtime and shared their words and definitions. This event is meant to reinforce what the students have learned in the classroom—another great day at our school. Go Falcons!!!!

This past weekend, during a full moon, Lincoln Park Academy Theatre opened the spooky, quirky musical: ZombieProm. This show follows two lovebirds through a journey of young love, unforeseen chaos and rights for zombies. The students performed beautifully and told the story with such conviction and talent. A New Year, A New Cobra Way Fort Pierce Central High School’s Creative Writing Club (CWC) was started in 2014 by Kelly Addams, a former FPC student and teacher. CWC was created to give students a place to share their writing. Mrs. McPhee has historically taught the only Creative Writing course on campus, so in 2015 Ms. Addams and a student in that class had an idea. Students in Miss Petrie’s class brought math to life as they became the manipulatives in a fun greater than/less than activity. Children moved around the hallway to each side of the math problem to make statements true.

On Unity Day, Mariposa Elementary students and staff wore orange to show that they are together against bullying, and united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Mrs. Theresa Delancy’s students, Jackson Plantier, Jared Commander, Danica Jonas, Bailey Paylor, Paetynn Brayboy, Malia Johnson, and Tanner Feick are standing up for unity! It was a great day to celebrate Unity!    

Students in Ms. Pelchat’s InD homeroom class at Oak Hammock K-8, decided to enhance their book report project by creating a pumpkin character book report. Each student used a pumpkin to recreate their favorite character from a book they read in class. Students identified the character, character traits and designed a pumpkin to be reflective of their character. Students were given the opportunity to present their project and share what they learned about the character to their peers.

Mariposa Elementary participated in Read for the Record school-wide. As a school, we signed up for the nationwide literacy event. We pledged to read the book “Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon” by Kat Zhang, along with 2 million other students. PNC banker, Heather Ferguson read the book to our VPK students, and afterward each student received the book to take home. The students loved the story and also enjoyed drawing their very own dragons. Many other classrooms also created dragons. They used the book as inspiration and were encouraged to try their best.

Students in Mrs. McKenna’s 1st grade class took part in a study of Frida Kahlo for Hispanic Heritage Month. After learning about Frida Kahlo’s inspirational story, students designed and created their own paintbrushes and completed self-portraits.

Village Green’s PBIS hosted the school’s 1st Annual Spooky Walk on Friday, October 29th.  This creative activity involved specific grade-level activities for all students. VPK-2nd grade students read, “The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything”, prior to going outside. Students were able to retell the events of the story while looking for clues out on the trail. 3rd-5th grade students participated in a Math & Word Scavenger Hunt. All students were thoroughly entertained throughout the entire day!
