Dream Makers at CAST

CAST has spirit, yes we do! Our students have loved showing their school spirit this week. The theme was Dream Makers: Arts, Academics, & Athletics. Students dressed up showing their favorite sports, arts, and what they would like to be in the future!  

EDC’s School Counselor & Educator Virtual Tour – Targeted Industry Exploration

The Economic Development Council (EDC) in collaboration with St. Lucie Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) department hosted a live session for school counselors, graduation coaches, CTE educators, and school and district administrators. Participants gained insight into the industry, growth, and employment opportunities within St. Lucie County. The presenters were Two Way Radio Gear, Indian River Select, and The Porch Factory. The presentation highlighted the upcoming Ready to Work Manufacturing and Distribution Boot Camp.

Synergizing Through STEAM

First-grade CAST students in Mrs. Lundy’s class drew and drafted their own plans to design a bridge with an underpass. They used a variety of materials to construct their bridges as a team. They expanded their creativity through art, engineering, and synergy!  

Lincoln Park Academy Students4H2O Celebrates the Environment at NatureFest

Lincoln Park Academy had a wonderful time at NatureFest 2022! With over 30 booths from local environmental and outdoor groups, including nonprofits, parks, and eco-centers, plus local businesses, LPA Students4H2O was proud to be at the 26th environmental festival alongside the Lincoln Park Academy Key Club and the Lincoln Park Academy Environmental Protection Club. This educational environmental festival featured many exhibitors that showcased the Treasure Coast’s wildlife, natural resources, and Florida’s great outdoors! We look forward to participating at Water Fest — another empowering community event — on March 26th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stuart Memorial Park!

PSLHS Drama Department Auditions for Grease

Oak Hammock K-8 Students Engaged in Learning from Blooklet

Students on the 7th Grade Raptors Team in Mr. Sparacio’s Civics class participated in a review on the Blooket platform. Students are engaged in a gamified learning platform where teachers host games through question sets. Blooket is an exciting new take on the modern classroom review game. It aims to match action with education to create the ultimate learning experience! Blooket is used as a trivia and review tool that allows educators to “level up classroom engagement”. Lawnwood Leopards Have Got the Beat

Lawnwood Leopards are learning how to use rhythm sticks to keep a steady beat. Ms. Evans, Music Teacher, is teaching second-grade students how to sing Native American songs and use the rhythm sticks to enhance their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and directionality skills. GO LEOPARDS!

CAST Black History Month Typographic Quote

Middle school students in Mrs. Grasso’s Graphic Arts class recently finished a unit on Typography – which is an essential component in Graphic Design. Students learned about the different font categories including serif, sans serif, script, and display. Using that knowledge, along with the Principles of Design, students created beautiful mini typographic posters for Black History Month utilizing industry-standard design software, Adobe Illustrator.

‘Chick’ Us Out at CAST

Kindergarten students at CAST are observing the life cycle of chickens! They partnered with the local 4H extension office for this embryology unit. Kindergarteners will watch eggs incubate over the next 21 days and journal about how the eggs are changing on the inside. We can’t wait for the eggs to hatch!  

Oak Hammock Middle School Students Excel at the District STEM Fair

Oak Hammock K8 middle school students’ science fair projects were chosen as first-place winners for their grades at Oak Hammock. They then participated in the District STEM Fair at IRSC on February 11, 2022. We are so proud of their dedication and hard work! FPC Hosts CTE Fair for 9th-Grade Students

The purpose of the event was to educate the 9th-grade class about the CTE programs offered at FPC before 9th-grade students sign up for 10th-grade classes. The goal was to place students in the right programs to flourish in completing an academy while achieving the highest level of industry certifications. Each program had a table with all kinds of information about their CTE course and what it is all about. Students of various levels represented each program and explained the course from a student’s perspective. Many manipulatives were used at each course to showcase this information. CAST Shops for the Right Price

Mrs. Proctor’s 6th-grade math class is working on ratio concepts and being able to use ratio reasoning to solve problems. The students had the opportunity to “go shopping” in the classroom and see if it was cheaper to buy in bulk or a single item by itself. Students had to use what they learned about unit rate to see what each item in the bulk pack would cost and compare it to if it was cheaper to buy the item in bulk or the single items by themselves.  

WEST Prep Students Spread Love through Service Projects

All homeroom classes were charged with brainstorming, designing, and implementing community service projects. Several classes created Valentine’s Day cards for the elderly and their teachers delivered them for them. Showcased here are cards from Ms. Hoffman’s, Ms. Owen’s, and Ms. Tillman’s classes. Ms. Tillman’s classroom had several groups and one named themselves the “KCP Post-Its”. The K is for Kindness, the C is for Compassion, and the P is for Poverty. They developed a mission statement and will be doing monthly projects moving forward.

FPC Shines at STEM Fair

A monumental congratulations to our FPC STEM Fair Students. Students did a phenomenal job presenting their projects on Friday, February 11th at the District STEM Fair. Ms. Amanda Buck, a proud Cobra science teacher, reports FPC presenting among the best projects at the STEM Fair! With such huge success, Ms. Buck anticipates a few FPC students competing at the state level, with one student perhaps even going all the way to compete internationally. Go Cobras! Home of STEM learning success!  

Assisting the Botanical Gardens

On February 12th and 13th, the Port St. Lucie JROTC Jaguar Battalion conducted a two-day volunteering event at the Botanical Gardens Annual Plant Sale on Westmoreland Blvd. The Plant Sale is an event that allows the Jaguar Battalion to assist and communicate with the customers who visited the Garden to purchase plants and other unique commodities. The cadets interacted with the customers and helped carry their items to their vehicles. Our cadets had a wonderful experience participating in the event.

Gaines Academy at the SLC STEM Fair

Mr. MacKenzie, Project Lead The Way instructor, accompanied five student scientists from Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies to the 2021/2022 SLC Regional STEM Fair. These young ladies worked very hard to prepare their projects to be presented to the judges. Their topics ranged from Engineering to Microbiology. The day was busy with presentations as well as media interviews which was new and exciting to these middle-schoolers. The students did very well and are looking forward to hearing the results from the judging.

Mariposa Elementary “Kindness Squad”

Mariposa Elementary proudly announced the creation of their “Kindness Squad,” led by teachers Ms. Theresa Delancy and Ms. Erica Anderson. This team of fifth-graders began meeting monthly to plan activities that promote kindness across our campus. They helped lead a drive-by event with our kindergarten staff and students to bring sunshine to a student who has been out of school for an extended period of time. PSLHS Jaguars Dominated Down South

 On Friday, February 12th, 2022, the Jaguar Battalion traveled to Seminole Ridge High School to compete against 10 schools for the 1st place title. Both male and female teams competed in Unarmed/Armed Squad, Unarmed/Armed Platoon, Color Guard, and Let 1 Squad. Port St. Lucie High School took 1st place in the Armed squad, Armed platoon, Color Guard, and 2nd place for the Unarmed platoon as well as 1st for Dual Exhibition for the females. FGMS Bulldogs Win Reading Competition

Superintendent Gent, School Board Member Jennifer Richardson, and Executive Director Adrian Ocampo made a visit to Forest Grove Middle School to congratulate Mrs. Barbara Redic’s 6th-grade 4th period reading class for winning the Reading Plus “Race to 21” competition. Mrs. Redic’s students came in first place, beating out other middle schools throughout Florida and Georgia. Mrs. Redic’s students completed over 50,000 reading lessons over a period of time with scores of 80% or higher. Way to go Bulldogs!!!!

FPC & IRSC Career & College Fair

Fort Pierce Central High School students got immersed in the possibilities for a future of their choosing! IRSC and numerous community partners came out to give students a first-hand view of trades, careers, and college options. Students met with experts in their respective areas, speaking with students in real-world terms, giving a true glimpse of life after high school.
