7-Eleven Celebrates Grand Opening with Donation

To celebrate the grand opening of their newest store on Orange Avenue in Ft. Pierce, community partner 7-Eleven gifted a generous donation of $711 to C.A. Moore Elementary. In attendance was SLPS board member Debbie Hawley, who was joined by C.A. Moore principal Dr. Thelma Jackson and assistant principals Alisha Kennedy and Makeda Brome. Thank you to 7-Eleven for their support of our schools!

CAST Fine Art Classes Celebrate Women in Art

Elementary music students learned about Evelyn Glinney, a deaf percussionist who composed music and would take her shoes off to feel the vibrations of her songs. Students played drums to feel vibrations. Middle School visual art students studied works of art by Helen Frakenthaler who was famous for using non-traditional tools in her paintings. Students then explored different techniques to express themselves in this abstract way. Middle school dance students dedicated several dances in their spring show to renowned artist, Janet Jackson.

CAST Fifth-Graders Honor Artistic Women of The Past, Present, and Future

In honor of Women’s History Month, fifth-grade students at CAST collaborated to create a banner honoring women in the arts. Students researched notable women in the fields of visual and performing arts. Their pennants included important life events, life lessons, and traits that led to their success. As a result of studying notable women of our past and present, the students discovered great things can come from adversity when they believe in their own abilities and the abilities of those around them and that they, too, can become notable artists of the future.  

Read Across America at CAST

Students at CAST celebrated Read Across America Day! Kindergartners did an author study on Eric Carle; they are hungry for reading! First graders recognized the amazing diversity in stories and wrote about what makes them special. Third graders went for a reading picnic and read outside.  

CAST Sixth-Graders Create Self Portraits

During Women’s History Month, sixth-graders in Ms. Kenny’s English Language Arts classes learned about and researched female artists known for their self-portraits. Students wrote their own, “I am” poem, and created self-portraits with a unique and artistic twist. The final product was a fusion of language and art materials, creating a unique self-expression.    

Black Out Poems at CAST

Seventh grade students at CAST  read poems from different female poets such as Emily Dickinson and Maya Angelou and discussed their meaning. They chose words from the poem that stood out to them and then created their own blackout poems using these words.  

CAST Graphic Artists Design Business Cards Fit for Royalty

In celebration of Women in Art, CAST middle school Graphic Arts students listened to a story written and illustrated by Croatian artist Smiljana Coh called The Seven Princesses. Each princess in the story had specific likes and talents – from architecture to art to athletics, and everything in between. Students were then instructed to imagine themselves as designers inside the kingdom where they were hired by one of the princesses to create a business card for their entrepreneurial venture. The students learned a quick overview of the anatomy of a business card and created a card fit for a princess.    

Congratulations to the CAST ART Bus Winners!

St. Lucie County’s public transportation system – Area Regional Transit (ART) – recently announced a countywide Call to Artists. In partnership with the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance, Area Regional Transit invited local artists to submit images of their artwork for display on the exterior of the county buses. The opportunity was designed with a youth preference, and CAST is proud to announce that Daniella SanJuan (7th grade) and Rayley Sheltra (8th grade), students in Mrs. Grasso’s middle school Graphic Arts class, were 2 of 6 student artists chosen to have their work displayed on a St. Lucie County ART bus! Pie in the Face for Kids Heart Challenge

Oak Hammock K-8 elementary students were up for the challenge of smashing a pie in the face of Coach Branim. The Kids Heart Challenge is a fun and exciting event where students learn about their hearts while helping others by raising money for the American Heart Association. It prepares our students for success through physical and emotional well-being as they learned the importance of being healthy. Colt Nation Leader in Me & Minecraft Stop & STEM

Colt Nation’s 4th graders enjoyed a Leader in Me/Minecraft Stop & STEM day in which they collaboratively selected and reflected upon their favorite Leader in Me habit, expressed their communal voice through FlipGrid, and designed a visual representation of their habit in Minecraft. It took teamwork to execute this challenge using multiple modalities. Everyone’s genius was surely at work! Great job, Colts!

CAST Students Honor Women in Art

Third-grade students at CAST researched famous female poets such as Amanda Gorman, Rupi Kaur, and Mary Ann Hoberman and recorded important facts. Students selected their favorite poem and illustrated how the poem made them feel. These pictures came together into a beautiful “poet-tree”! Fourth-grade students learned about female Highwayman artist Mary Ann Carroll and collaborated to make a landscape portrait. They also listened to railroad songs from Zora Neale Hurston and dissected the lyrics to better understand this period in Florida History.

TCHS Advanced Manufacturing Hosts Career Day

Treasure Coast High’s (TCHS) Advanced Manufacturing Advisory Board hosted Career Day on Microsoft Teams!  Business partners from Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Apprenticeship, Piper Aircraft Apprenticeship, Indian River Select Freshco, Indian River State College and CareerSource Research Coast participated. TCHS Instructor Phil Depuy and his Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering students heard about apprenticeships, job openings, 2-year college programs, the importance of a resume, and wisely choosing references. It was a great morning for all!

Mosaic Owls Exploring the Anatomy of a Frog

Mosaic Digital Academy instructor, Mrs. Linton, offered her 8th Graders the opportunity to participate in frog dissection lab experiences on campus this week. This introduction to vertebrate anatomy and mature body systems provided students the opportunity to explore the anatomy of the frog while engaging in discussions about adaptations and how anatomical structures are related to their functions.  #MosaicOwlsLoveScience #VirtualStudents #LabDayFun 

Lincoln Park Academy Celebrates Water Fest 2022!

Lincoln Park Academy Students4H2O had a great time this Saturday at Stuart Memorial Park as they partook in Water Fest 2022! Lincoln Park Academy was proud to represent St. Lucie County at this environmental conservation event. Hundreds of attendees stopped by to check out their activity focused on upcycling egg cartons as planting pots. Among these included Principal of Lincoln Park Academy, Henry Sanabria; Assistant Principal of Lincoln Park Academy, Candace Stone; and Keep Fort Pierce Beautiful Chair, Caleta Scott. FPC Track Team Victories!

Congratulations to the men’s track team for winning 1st place and the women’s track team for winning 2nd place at the Saint Lucie County Championship. Rolen Gauthier, Richelle Williams, and Nikayia Wilder were trailblazers for their teams, with Nikayia breaking the school record in shot put! Cobra athletes did an amazing job and a big thanks to all Cobra family members for their support! According to junior Joh’Rissa McBurnie- practice makes perfect! Never missing a practice led to her shattering her personal best in the 100-meter hurdles.

Northport K-8 Dances to Success at Spring Fling

Students from VPK to fifth grade celebrated the school year together during the Spring Fling on Friday, March 28. The dance theme was Alice in Wonderland, and students were encouraged to dress up. Other activities included big and little yard games, food, dancing, and face painting donated by the school PTO president.   A special guest, the Queen of Hearts, made an appearance for photo opportunities. Contest winners for Best Dressed, Best Costume, and Best Mad Hatter were also awarded.
