Welcome Back Panthers

All Panthers attended a Back to School Assembly led by administration to go over Fort Pierce Westwood Academy expectations such as being fully present, academically focused, and treating others the way we want to be treated. In addition, administration reviewed the dress code, attendance, and tardy policies, as well as various school-wide procedures.

Another Successful Summer Program for our English Learners! 

Mission Graduation for English Learners summer program was held this year in Southern Oaks Middle. Incoming 6th through 12th recently arrived English Learners were engaged in English learning classes, grade level Math, English, and Civics. Students were given opportunities to develop entrepreneurship through a Graphic Design course where students created different products, a logo, and a vision for their future businesses. Students developed friendships and partnerships while they participated in different sporting events and activities. It was a great program! Students and staff said this was the highlight of their summer.

First Day of School!

SLPS had a great first day of school! Superintendent Dr. Jon R. SLW Centennial’s Criminal Justice Student Completes Judicial Internship with Judge Maynard

St. Lucie West Centennial’s Criminal Justice/Law Academy student, Vincent Chin, was selected from all the local high schools to intern with U.S. Magistrate Judge Shaniek Maynard.  Vincent and Judge Maynard worked together from July 5 until August 5, and was an official member of Judge Maynard’s Chamber Staff.  This prestigious internship was based on teacher recommendations and afforded Vincent the chance to earn community service hours during his time as an intern. West Prep Kicks Off School Year with MSAP Symposium

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy teachers and staff geared up for a great school year at the annual MSAP Symposium! Presentations were made by Superintendent Dr. Jon Prince, State Representative Dana Trabulsy, and Microsoft Education Industry Executive Victoria Thompson. Teachers continued their learning with a presentation from the Oxbow Center about invasive species; then STEAM lessons were created for students to dive deep into this topic this year!

Lincoln Park Academy GoalFest 2022

After a year filled with community and school events, activities, and initiatives, Lincoln Park Academy Students4H2O closed the school year with GoalFest. GoalFest focuses on educating others about the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and how they relate to our lives and the world around us through 30-second to 3-minute video submissions. West Prep’s Historic Fort Pierce Tour

Westwood teachers and staff enjoyed a historic tour of Fort Pierce led by Mayor Linda Hudson, former Mayor Bob Benton, and St. Lucie County Planning Manager Kori Benton. Locations such as the Zora Neale Hurston Library, the A.E. Backus Museum, and Old City Hall were highlighted as well as the surrounding neighborhoods where many students reside. Thank you to our wonderful tour guides for starting this preservice week with information about our beautiful city.

SLPS Launches Summer Feeding Program

Starting June 13th, SLPS is hosting a Summer Feeding Program, offering FREE food for children and teens, ages 2-18. All schools in St. Lucie County are open feeding sites for the community and students can go to any school for meals. Students that are not enrolled for summer school or camp must sign-in at the front office prior to receiving a meal. Lawnwood Leopards Attend Math Night at Publix

K-5 Lawnwood Elementary students were invited to attend the Publix Math Night. Students teamed up with their parents to complete a scavenger hunt. It was a marvelous math event for the students of Lawnwood Elementary School. GO LEOPARDS!  

Mariposa Elementary Kindergarten, First, & Second Grade Students Visited Their Future Grade Level Classrooms

At Mariposa Elementary, Mrs. Ryan’s Kindergarten class visited Mrs. Lantaigne’s first-grade classroom. They practiced first-grade skills and discussed with the current first-graders what they enjoyed most about being first-graders. Then, Mrs. Lantaigne’s first-graders visited Ms. Watson’s second-grade class. They had a great time playing a math game and learning what to expect! This was a wonderful way to ease the transition into the next grade level and the students really enjoyed meeting the first and second-grade teachers.  

SLPS Celebrates the Class of 2022

Congratulations to the Class of 2022! Last week, Superintendent Gent, joined by Board Chairman Dr. Donna Mills, Board Vice Chairman Troy Ingersoll, Board Member Debbie Hawley, Board Member Jack Kelly, and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jon Prince celebrated the graduating classes of 2022 at Lawnwood Stadium. Nearly 3,000 students walked across the stage to receive their diplomas. Graduation is the culminating event that celebrates and recognizes the achievement of each graduate. Lawnwood Leopards are Mathematicians

All K-5 Lawnwood students attended a grade level math competition. The goal of the competition was to encourage students’ interest in math, to develop their problem-solving skills, and to inspire them to excel in math.

CAST STEAM Night

Students at CAST enjoyed a fun night of pizza, raffles, and STEAM activities at our annual STEAM Night. There were different activities for grade groups such as playing with kinetic sand, painting with puffy paint, creating their own musical instruments to learn about vibrations, and designing chemical reaction cars. It was a fun night of learning!  

Mariposa Elementary’s VPK Visits CAST

At Mariposa Elementary, Mrs. Claudia Bonilla’s VPK was very fortunate to visit CAST (Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie) to watch their rendition of  “The Rainbow Fish”. The VPK students also enjoyed dancing on the stage. What a fantastic presentation and a fun day for all!

Fire Department Visits CAST

Kindergarten, first, and second-grade students learned all about fire safety, and they also learned about our firefighter friends from St. Lucie County’s Engine 15! Students now know how to check smoke detectors, how to make a fire escape plan, and how to call 9-1-1! Thank you for keeping us safe! 

Fairlawn Student Council Gives Back

On Saturday, April 23rd, Fairlawn Elementary’s Student Council met to help beautify the campus. The boys and girls collected trash around the school grounds. Following the clean-up, the students made bracelets and keychains for the Fairlawn teachers and staff in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to JBR Exteriors for sponsoring the event.

Leader of the Month Ceremony at CAST

We are so proud of our leaders at CAST! We are so happy to be able to recognize our Leaders of the Month who demonstrate exemplary leadership skills in the Leader in Me Habit 6 “Synergize”, and Habit 7  “Sharpen the Saw”, in our first live ceremony this year. Our Student Ambassadors helped run the ceremony and our sixth-grade dancers performed. Way to go CAST performers!
