SLW Centennial NAVY JRTOC Wins 1st Place!

The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC “Black Talon” Unit competed in the Lake Howell High School’s NJROTC “Silverhawk” Showdown Drill Meet against 15 other NJRTOC units.  The field meet competition is composed of Academic, Drill, Physical Fitness, and Personnel Inspection.  The SLW Centennial “Black Talon” won 1st Place in the Personnel Inspection portion of the Field Meet Competition! Jaguar Battalion and the Martin Luther King Parade

On January 16th, 2023, The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion participated in a parade to honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cadets marched along Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd beginning from Lincoln Park Academy and finishing at Lawnwood Elementary. The Battalion was led by Battalion Commander Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Elena Garcia, trailed by the battalion staff and the battalion companies. Over 145 cadets participated in the Parade in remembrance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s outstanding achievements.

TCHS AFJROTC Marches in the Ft. Pierce MLK Parade

More than 100 AFJROTC cadets from Treasure Coast High School marched in the parade honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  It was an honor for the Corps of Cadets to show its pride and professionalism and engage with the Treasure Coast community.

Oak Hammock K8 Civics Family Engagement Night

Students and families participated in Oak Hammock K-8’s Civics Engagement Night. Mr. Sparacio and Mrs. Garcia presented information to families and students on what to expect out of the Civics course as well as the Civics EOC. Students and their parents/guardians engaged in a friendly competition to review content and material taught in the Civics course. They learned about resources and strategies to be successful on the Civics EOC.    

FPC Volunteers at the Oxbow Eco Center

On a brisk Saturday December morning, the Fort Pierce Central High School National Honor Society (NHS) & FPC Gardening Club teamed up to support a natural gem! The Oxbow Eco Center is St. Lucie County’s sanctuary for outdoor enthusiasts, families, and pet walks on the trails. From archery classes to science lessons and nature-based art-making, the Oxbow is a true treasure. Teen volunteers from both clubs cleared weeds, debris, and resurfaced walking trails with pine needle beds. Students also worked on preparing seedlings for future planting. Ms. Emily Royo’s Drawing and Painting II students participated in the 3rd annual Fort Pierce Art Club’s Magnificent Mini Masterpieces Art Contest & Show. The contest was expanded to Fort Pierce Central and Westwood High Schools this year. SLW Centennial Navy JROTC Cleans the Streets!

The Saint Lucie West Centennial High School Navy JROTC performed Adopt-A-Street responsibilities on Thursday, January 5th, 2023.     The Navy JROTC unit “Navy Eagles” are responsible for picking up trash along Cashmere Boulevard between Heatherwood Boulevard and Crystal River Boulevard. The Navy JROTC Navy Eagles have been performing these duties for the past 16 years.   The platoons rotate the Adopt-A-Street responsibilities monthly. Westwood Art Club Hosts Art Exhibit & Auction

Thank you to the Fort Pierce Art Club for hosting its annual fundraiser “Magnificent Miniatures” exhibit and auction. Four FPWA students won awards for their outstanding artworks: Lacy Sampson, Kamara Johnson, Taina Salazar, and Mariah Scordamaglia. The event was a huge success and the FPWA Art Department was awarded $500. THANK YOU to our community for supporting the arts!!!

Oak Hammock K8 Helps with Hurricane Ian Relief

Oak Hammock teachers, students, and families came together to bring hurricane relief to students in need at Mariner Middle School on the west coast of Florida. We were able to donate sneakers, sandals, jeans, shirts, and sweaters for their students.

Westwood Dissects Owl Pellets

Students in Ms. Cooper’s class worked through the scientific method as they dissected owl pellets. They sorted and classified different bones discovered through this hands-on learning experience!

Westwood Holiday Letters Partnership

Ms. Hoots’ art classes partnered with the Army JROTC Department for a “Holiday Letters & Cards From Home” project. This holiday season, our classes teamed up to make hand-painted Christmas cards and hand-written letters to troops who are currently deployed overseas. This new tradition for our two departments was started last year with the same goal in mind, which is to bring joy to service members who are unable to be with their families and loved ones during the holidays and let them know that they are appreciated for what they do. Cookie Connection at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy

Students in Ms. Lewis’ class completed a protein synthesis lab. Students traveled into the nucleus (hallway) to replicate their DNA/cookie gene. After replication, they had to produce an mRNA code for the original gene. Once the mRNA strand was created, they traveled to the ribosome (lab area) to model translation. By the end, they had a list of ingredients that they used to assemble their protein(cookie).

Fort Pierce Central High School HOSA Students’ Holiday Community Service Event

The Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapter from Fort Pierce Central High School came together to share holiday joy at Lake Forest Assisted Living facility. Students delivered holiday cheer with gifts for the residents and holiday songs. HOSA is a student-led organization for high school students enrolled in a Health Science program and interested in pursuing a career as a health professional.

Port St. Lucie High School’s Building Construction Technologies Students Design and Build a Room

Constructing the small room helped students in the Building Construction Technologies program at Port St. Lucie High School marry the theoretical to the practical. After learning about safety and the names and proper use of tools, students go on to learn the basics of framing, electrical, drywall installation, repair, and finishing in residential buildings. Students are also introduced to the basics of plumbing and HVAC.
