Chef Howard Farro Visits Chester A. Moore Elementary

Chester. A Moore Elementary welcomed Chef Howard Farro to speak to our 5th Graders as part of our Black History Month and AVID speaker series. Students were excited to learn about how Chef Howard’s career got started and especially how he became a personal chef for celebrities! Chef Farro gave an inspirational talk that encouraged students to pay attention in school, always do the best they can, and to know they can rebound from any setbacks in life.

Jaguar Battalion Exceeds the Standard

On February 14th, the Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion was inspected to see if they qualify to stay as an Honor Unit with Distinction. The JROTC Program for Accreditation (JPA) is an inspection from the United States Army to determine whether a unit can keep their gold star. The gold star is earned by the units that have demonstrated exceptional performance in all areas of program operation. Northport K-8 Culinary Students Make Pizza

Culinary Arts students at Northport K-8 were visited by Chef Damiano, a professionally trained Pizza Chef from Fresh Market.  The students were wrapping up their studies on pizza and used Chef Damiano’s dough.  The students made sauce with the Chef’s tomatoes imported from Italy and made pizza with fresh ingredients.  Delizioso!

Southern Oaks Sends Reading Ambassadors to Rivers Edge

For Literacy Week in January, Southern Oaks Middle School 6, 7, and 8th grade Reading Ambassadors visited Rivers Edge Elementary classrooms to provide story time and meaningful conversations about reading. Each day of Literacy Week a different grade level visited kindergarten and first graders. The Reading Ambassadors were nominated by their teachers for excellence in reading. Rivers Edge Elementary teachers were thrilled to have the students and commented on how well Southern Oaks students behaved and read with great enthusiasm. Chester A. Moore 5th Grade Attends Let’s Go, Science!

Chester A. Moore Elementary would like to thank Ms. Zulay Garcia and community partners Fort Pierce Elks Lodge #1520, River of Life Fellowship, and Nettles Island Womens Club. Ms. Garcia worked with Sunrise Theatre to provide this exciting learning opportunity. Additionally, the generous donations from community sponsors funded busing and admissions, making it possible for the entire 5th grade class to attend.

Southern Oaks Students Sweep STEM Fair Awards

  Southern Oaks Middle School made an impressive showing at the district science fair in January 2023. The school sent 16 participants to the district science fair, but one student showed accomplishment that far exceeded the others. Ramses Antunez Rivers won first place in the category of environmental engineering. This extraordinary seventh-grade student also won the right to enter the Florida State STEM Fair in April in Orlando. Oak Hammock K8 Kindergarten Family Engagement Night

Kindergarten students and their families enjoyed a night of fun-filled activities at the Kindergarten Family Engagement Night. They participated in activities that involved practicing Sight Words. Activities included: Sight Word Swat, Snowy Sight Word Scavenger Hunt, Mirror Sight Words, Ice Fishing Sight Words ,and Sight Word Snowball. The event was engaging and enjoyable to all who attended.

Culinary Students at Northport K8

Culinary Arts students at Northport K-8 are learning how to be safe while cooking, and how to make better nutritional choices.   Students competed in a salsa challenge where each added a secret ingredient that was then judged by the school staff! The winning salsas were served at their school-wide Hispanic Heritage month event.  

Palm Pointe First Graders Get Wild

It’s wild out there! First-grade students met St. Lucie’s backyard wildlife. They compared local native, exotic, and invasive animals and learned how they behave in ecosystems. Are they friends or foes? The Oxbow Ambassador also brought an assortment of taxidermy, bones, and pelts for investigation. The students enjoyed the Oxbow Eco-Center bringing the field trip to us and had so much fun making a few new animal friends!

Medical Detective Students at St. Lucie West K8 use microscopes for their protozoan classification lesson.  Students also participated in the St. Lucie County Regional STEM Fair!

Jaguars Present Colors for Senior Pinning

On Wednesday, February 8th at Port St. Lucie High School, the Senior Class of 2023 celebrated their final year in High School with a senior pinning event. During this year’s ceremony, the auditorium was filled with parents and supporters. Port St. Lucie High School was honored to include guest speaker, Dr. Adrian Ocampo. The Jaguar Battalion presented the Colors for the senior class of 2023. Cadet Captain Michael Coccaro as National Flag Bearer, Cadet First Sergeant Eathan Clayton as State Flag Bearer, Cadet Captain Isaac Mendez as the Right Guard, and Cadet First Sergeant Jeremiah Davis as the Left Guard.

SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC Earns 1st Place Trophy!

Congratulations to the SLW Centennial Navy JROTC “Navy Eagles Black Talon” Drill Competition Team! They competed on Saturday, February 4th, 2023 at Flanagan High School and earned multiple trophies during the Flanagan “Stars and Stripes” Competition Drill Meet in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Mosaic Owls Head to Oxbow!

Mosaic Digital Academy K-5 students traveled back in time on a fun, interactive historical journey through the Oxbow Eco-center Preserve. Students experienced events from Florida’s history from both a human and wildlife perspective while learning about Florida’s abundant natural resources. A deep look at how humans have altered Florida’s watersheds gave students an opportunity to think deeply about how they can protect this fragile ecosystem they call home for the future.
